Ejections: Andy Fletcher (2)

2B Umpire Andy Fletcher ejected Twins Manager Ron Gardenhire for arguing an out call in the bottom of the 6th inning of the Angels-Twins game. With two out and one on and a 2-2 count to Twins batter Alexi Casilla, Angels pitcher Jered Weaver picked off Twins runner Denard Span at second base on a throw to shortstop Erick Aybar. Replays indicate that Aybar tagged Span before touching second base. Span's hand on the head first slide was blocked by Aybar's foot. The call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the contest was tied, 0-0. The Twins ultimately won the contest, 1-0, in 10 innings.

This is Andy Fletcher (49)'s second ejection of 2011.
Andy Fletcher now has 8 points in the Umpire Ejection Fantasy League (4 Previous + 2 MLB + 2 Correct Call = 8).
Andy Fletcher is owned as a Secondary Umpire by thexfactor264, who is now tied for 9th place in the UEFL with 8 points.

This is the 54th ejection of 2011.
This is the 30th manager ejection of 2011.
This is Ron Gardenhire's third ejection of 2011.

Good call by Fletcher, that's just a good defensive play.

Is it just me, or does Gardenhire seem especially cranky this year? This is the second one he's been dumped for one that wasn't worth geting dumped for. It's not like he came out to protect Span, who never said a word to Fletcher. Garednhire is too smart a baseball guy to even try to make an obstruction argument on this, right? Does he seem himself as the heir apparent to Bobby Cox?

He just looks like one of these times the top of his head is gonna blow off, filling his cap with brain matter, and giving the rest of us a video clip for the ages.

Don't you just love managers who argue with no regard for what actually happened on the field?

Prior to this game the Twins were 1-6. Weaver had just made a throwing error to first on a pick off to move Span to 2nd. Now Span gets picked off. Span gave that slow I cannot believe you called me out look, although he did not argue, since his hand was on the foot rather than the bag.
Gardenhire saw his opening at home with the crowd and being 1-6 in the last 7 games. Funny how Andy tells him 'that's *the f word* BS'.
Gardenhire does not care how it looks. If he goes out to argue for his player or if he thinks it looks that way from the dugout he does not care. He saw a close play against him and being 1-6 used the opportunity presented to get ejected.
