MLB Instant Replay Review 053: Bob Davidson (04)

Instant Replay Review upheld 1B Umpire Bob Davidson's no catch (safe) call in the top of the 1st inning of the Padres-Indians game. With none out and one on, Padres batter Chris Denorfia hit a 0-2 fastball from Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer in the air to right fielder Elliot Johnson, who attempted to catch the fly ball whereupon the ball fell to the ground. Upon Instant Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Indians Manager Terry Francona, Davidson's ruling that Johnson did not possess the ball and its release was not voluntary and intentional was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 0-0. The Padres ultimately won the contest, 2-1.
