MLB Instant Replay Review 098: Rob Drake (01)

Instant Replay Review confirmed 1B Umpire Rob Drake's HR call in the top of the 6th inning of the Nationals-Marlins game. With two out and two on, Nationals batter Jayson Werth hit a 0-1 fastball from Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez in the air to deep right-center field, where the descending fly ball made contact with a fan at or near the boundary atop the outfield wall. Upon Instant Replay Review as the result of a request by Marlins Manager Mike Redmond and initiation by Crew Chief Joe West, Drake's ruling that the ball cleared the playing field in flight and was not subject to spectator interference upon its exit was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 3-3. The Nationals ultimately won the contest, 6-3.
