MLB Instant Replay Review 208, 209: Greg Gibson (06, 07)

Instant Replay Review upheld 1B Umpire Greg Gibson's safe call in the top of the 4th inning and out call in the top of the 8th inning of the Pirates-Blue Jays game. In the 4th, with two out and none on, Blue Jays batter Josh Thole hit a 1-2 slider from Pirates pitcher Francisco Liriano on the ground to second baseman Neil Walker, who threw to first baseman Gabby Sanchez as Thole arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle, Gibson's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Blue Jays were leading, 4-0.

In the 8th, with one out and one on, Pirates pitcher Bryan Morris threw to first baseman Ike Davis in an attempt to pick off Blue Jays baserunner R1 Chris Getz. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Blue Jays Manager John Gibbons, Gibson's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 6-6. The Pirates ultimately won the contest, 8-6.
