MLB Replay Reviews 292-293: Hoye 6, Tumpane 3

Instant Replay Review overturned 2B Umpire James Hoye's out call in the top of the 5th and 3B Umpire John Tumpane's safe call in the top of the 7th innings of the Pirates-Yankees game. In the 5th, with none out and two on, Yankees pitcher David Phelps attempted to pick off Pirates baserunner Tony Sanchez at second base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle, Hoye's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the Yankees were leading, 3-0.

In the 7th, with none out and none on, Pirates batter Sanchez hit a 1-0 fastball from Yankees pitcher Dellin Betances on a line drive to center fielder Brett Gardner, who threw to shortstop Derek Jeter as Sanchez slid into second base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Yankees Manager Joe Girardi, Hoye's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the Yankees were leading, 4-1. The Yankees ultimately won the contest, 7-1.
