MLB Instant Replay Review 533: Todd Tichenor (05)

Instant Replay Review upheld 3B Umpire Todd Tichenor's No HR (live ball, in play) call in the bottom of the 8th inning of the Twins-Red Sox game. With one out and one on, Red Sox batter Dustin Pedroia hit a 1-2 knuckle curve from Twins pitcher Phil Hughes on a fly ball to deep left field and near the top of the outfield wall, caroming back onto the playing field where it was fielded by left fielder Josh Willingham, who threw to second baseman Brian Dozier, who retired Pedroia as 2B Umpire Tim Welke ruled Pedroia out for running more than three feet away from his base path in order to avoid a tag. Upon Replay Review as the result of a request by Red Sox Manager John Farrell and initiation by Crew Chief Welke, Tichenor's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Red Sox were leading, 2-1. The Red Sox ultimately won the contest, 2-1.
