Hamari was joined for the Padres-Giants game by Doug Eddings (1B), Marvin Hudson (2B) and Crew Chief Brian O'Nora (3B). Wednesday was Hamari's first plate no-hitter and the first MLB no-hitter since June 18, 2014 (Greg Gibson; Clayton Kershaw). Hamari is the only member of this crew to have called a no-hitter.

Hamari received 53 callable pitches, a total of 39 balls and 14 called strikes; the look:

Balls: 37 called balls outside of strike zone / 2 called balls within strike zone = 37/39 = 94.5% Accuracy.
Strikes: 12 called strikes inside strike zone / 2 called strikes outside strike zone = 12/14 = <90.0% Accuracy.
Total Raw Accuracy Score = 49/53 = 92.5% Accuracy (+0 Neutral For/Against Lincecum).

Non-Injury: Joe West Struck by Ball in Crew Chief Series

1B Umpire Joe West was drilled by a foul ball in the top of the 6th inning of the A's-Mets game. He was ok.

Joe strikes a country pose to show his toughness.
With two out and none on in the top of the 6th inning, Athletics batter Stephen Vogt lined a 2-2 fastball from Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon down the first base line and off West, who was positioned in foul territory and correctly ruled the ball foul.

Cowboy Joe remained in the game until its completion, serving alongside what may otherwise have been deemed a playoff-caliber umpiring lineup featuring three crew chiefs: Jerry Layne served as home plate umpire, West at first and Fieldin Culbreth at second base. Culbreth's regular crewmate Manny Gonzalez umpired at third.

The coalition of crew chiefs has left Paul Emmel in command of West's crew in Baltimore and Hunter Wendelstedt serving as acting crew chief for Layne in Kansas City.

The collection of captains at Citi Field also provides MLB with the opportunity to schedule, if they choose to do so, this hybrid crew for the weekend's Red Sox-Yankees rivalry series at New York's other Stadium. Nationally televised plate jobs for the weekend series would include Jerry Layne on Saturday (FOX) and Joe West for ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball... If they are so inclined...

Alternately, West (President), Culbreth (Vice President) and Layne (Secretary Treasurer) comprise the World Umpires Association union's executive board.

Rule 7.13 No Longer Applicable to Force Plays at Home

MLB tweaked its home plate collision Rule 7.13 to account for force plays at the plate in a move announced Tuesday. The previous iteration of Rule 7.13 stated that a catcher may not block a runner's access to home plate while not in possession of the baseball unless he is in the process of receiving a throw that necessitates his position.

Under this ruleset, Replay Review overturned HP Umpire Mike DiMuro's out call on June 18 when, with the bases loaded, Pirates catcher Russell Martin stood atop home plate to field a throw and record a force out as a baserunner from third base attempted to score. Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle was ejected while arguing the Replay Review decision that awarded a run to Cincinnati due to the enforcement of Rule 7.13.

In response to this play, Major League Baseball instructed its umpires to not enforce the experimental Rule 7.13 on force plays at home plate, which will continue to be reviewable pursuant to Replay Review regulations, although issues of interference or obstruction on such plays will not be subject to video instant replay review.

MLB's adjustment to Rule 7.13 does not apply to plays other than the obstructive force play at home plate and, accordingly, only affects the adjudication of these force plays going forward, with respect to Rule 7.13.

MLB Ejection & Replay Review: Bill Miller (4, 05)

HP Umpire Bill Miller ejected Rangers Manager Ron Washington for arguing a Replay Review decision that overturned Miller's Rule 7.13 violation no-call (out) in the bottom of the 1st inning of the Rangers-Angels game. With one out and one on, Angels batter Albert Pujols hit a 3-2 slider from Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish on a ground ball to center fielder Leonys Martin, who threw to pitcher Yu Darvish to catcher Chris Gimenez as Angels baserunner R1 Kole Calhoun slid into home plate. Upon Replay Review as the result of a request by Angels Manager Mike Scioscia and initiation by Crew Chief Bill Miller, Miller's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. Replays indicate Gimenez blocked Calhoun's access to home plate while not in possession of the baseball in a violation of Rule 7.13, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the game was tied, 0-0. At the time of the ejection, the Angels were leading, 1-0. The Angels ultimately won the contest, 5-2.
