MLB Ejection 109: Rob Drake (3; Brett Oberholtzer)

HP Umpire Rob Drake ejected Astros P Brett Oberholtzer for throwing at Yankees batter Alex Rodriguez in the top of the 2nd inning of the Yankees-Astros game. With one out and one on, Oberholtzer surrendered a home run to Yankees batter Chris Young. Immediately thereafter, subsequent batter Rodriguez took a first-pitch fastball inside for a called first ball. Replays indicate the pitch was significantly inside (px -2.580, or nearly two feet [22.5 inches] from the inner edge of home plate), the call was irrecusable. At the time of the ejection, the Yankees were leading, 6-0. The Yankees ultimately won the contest, 9-6.

MLB Ejection 108: Larry Vanover (2; Terry Collins)

2B Umpire Larry Vanover ejected Mets Manager Terry Collins for arguing an out call in the top of the 4th inning of the Mets-Brewers game. With one out and one on, Mets baserunner Darrell Ceciliani attempted to steal second base off Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy, who threw to second baseman Scooter Gennett as Ceciliani arrived at second base. Replays indicate Ceciliani's right foot appeared to come into contact with second base before Gennett's glove tagged Ceciliani, the call was incorrect.

MLB Ejection 107: Alan Porter (1; Joe Girardi)

1B Umpire Alan Porter ejected Yankees Manager Joe Girardi for arguing a ball one (check swing) call in the top of the 3rd inning of the Phillies-Yankees game. With two out and two on, Phillies batter Maikel Franco attempted to check his swing on a  0-2 curveball from Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova. Play was reviewed and adjudicated by the UEFL Appeals Board (0-5-0), the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the Yankees were leading, 2-0. The Yankees ultimately won the contest, 10-2.

Jim Joyce Tears Calf, to DL; G Gibson, Hamari Hit at Home

Jim Joyce suffered a torn calf muscle and is on the umpire's Disabled List. His projected DL time is 3-4 weeks after tearing his calf during Monday's Royals-Mariners game. Joyce finished the game and was replaced Tuesday by Pat Hoberg.

On Tuesday, plate umpire Greg Gibson additionally took a direct shot on an errant 88 mph cutter from Mariners pitcher Mike Montgomery, as catcher Mike Zunino was unable to glove the high pitch. After consultation with Mariners training staff and quick visual inspection of his hockey-style mask, Gibson remained in the game.

Meanwhile in Miami, plate umpire Adam Hamari was knocked back by an uncaught 95 mph fastball from Cardinals pitcher Kevin Siegrist that took a slight deflection off catcher Yadier Molina's mitt and struck the center of Hamari's chest protector. Like Gibson, Hamari stayed in the game.

MLB Ejections 105-106: Culbreth/Reynolds (1|2; Murphy, Kemp)

HP Umpire Fieldin Culbreth ejected Padres Interim Manager Pat Murphy and 1B Umpire Jim Reynolds ejected Padres RF Matt Kemp for arguing a strike three (check swing) call by Culbreth in the top of the 8th inning of the Padres-Giants game. With none out and two on, Padres batter Clint Barmes attempted to check his swing on a 1-2 curveball from Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner. Play was reviewed and adjudicated by the UEFL Appeals Board (7-0-0), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Giants were leading, 2-0. The Padres ultimately won the contest, 3-2, in 11 innings.

HP Umpire Eric Cooper ejected Indians Pitching Coach Mickey Callaway for arguing ball calls in the top of the 5th inning of the Tigers-Indians game. With none out and none on, Indians pitcher Danny Salazar loaded the bases with one out, prompting a mound visit from Callaway and subsequent ejection. Replays indicate that of Cooper's 12 called balls prior to Callaway's ejection, Cooper officiated all 12 properly for 100% accuracy (12/12), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 1-1. The Tigers ultimately won the contest, 7-3.

Replays indicate the pitch was located off the outer edge of home plate and thigh high (px -1.149, pz 2.168), the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the Orioles were leading, 6-3. The Orioles ultimately won the contest, 6-3.

At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 3-3. The Blue Jays ultimately won the contest, 8-5.
