The were, collectively, the best crew I've had the privilege of watching in years.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4917712291092871273.post-16762110853696866172011-09-10T08:26:01.834-07:002011-09-10T08:26:01.834-07:00http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=19034...http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=19034163Jon Terryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08536926849992961224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4917712291092871273.post-50153420914100247012011-09-10T04:55:48.771-07:002011-09-10T04:55:48.771-07:00Good job by Mark Carlson, even though some will lo...Good job by Mark Carlson, even though some will look on this as "Rabbit Ears" when a player is loudly creating a scene and cursing out at you you have to run them. You lose control over the game if you let that take place. After the pitch that Gonzalez was upset about, I believe it was the 2-1 pitch, Jim Tracy was barking from the dugout already, and Carlson showed great restraint not to throw him out right then and there. Overall, Carlson's professional work made Tracy and Carlos Gonzalez look bad, not him.
The other argument will be that you have to keep players in the games down the stretch, and indeed we have seen fewer ejections lately. But, this doesn't mean that a player has the free-will to get all over an umpire, especially balls and strikes. CarGo clearly showed up Carlson after that 2-1 pitch, and absolutely should have been tossed. Then, well, we all know the story of Tracy, and obviously he should have been run sooner than he was.
By the way, I would also like to add that I feel this is one of the best if not the best crews in baseball. Jeff Kellogg, the crew chief, has been a great dedicated umpire for a very long time. Eric Cooper is also a great umpire, and I believe that Tim Timmons is as well, as was evidenced by his handling of the Zambrano ejection. Carlson consistently does a great job, and never has too many beefs. I believe without looking to confirm this that there have been a total of 6 ejections from that crew this year (Cooper: 1, Timmons: 2, Carlson: 4) This is way down for Cooper and Timmons, who have had high ejection totals the past two years. I hope the MLB finds spots in the playoffs for all four crew members of this crew, as in my opinion they are very deserving.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4917712291092871273.post-42316948225196801102011-09-10T01:26:39.785-07:002011-09-10T01:26:39.785-07:00Wow, Tracy was mad. Maybe that's what made Tracy so mad, maybe he wanted to get Mark's goat, and Mark wouldn't fall for it.
If Joe Torre has any balls, he should fine Tracy.
After Tracy goes in the club house, and see's the chart, he's going to feel like an idiot. Or did he get that mad about Gonzalez getting run?
Still, Mark didn't deserve that, and he acted like a true pro.Big Marchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10059152139707572715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4917712291092871273.post-43937469512598203392011-09-09T20:56:31.071-07:002011-09-09T20:56:31.071-07:00Great calls by Carlson. Watching on MLB.tv with the "Park" audio option, you could hear some f*bombs coming from the Rockies dugout after Gonzalez returned following the strike out. Next, Mark calls time, points, and throws him out. Tracy continues with the cussing and is thrown out after an animated and exaggerated display, does the hands spread out bit, the one then two fingers in the air bit, etc.

What gets me is the Rockies announcers show the replay from the ground level side view, you clearly see pitch #4 above Gonzalez' knees, and the announcer still says Carlson got it wrong. Rockies broadcast team didn't make that best broadcasters poll earlier this season, right? All I remember was Vin Scully won by a landslide.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
