HP Umpire Bill Welke ejected Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista for arguing strike calls in the bottom of the 6th inning of the Rays-Blue Jays game. With none out and none on, Bautista swung at and missed a 3-2 curveball from Rays pitcher James Shields for strike three. To begin the at bat, Bautista took the 0-0 pitch and the 0-1 pitch for called strike one and two respectively. Replays indicate that both pitches were within the confines of the strike zone, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Rays were leading, 4-1. The Rays ultimately won the contest, 6-1.

I'm still undecided on the whole ejected after reentering the dugout action. It still seems a little petty to me.
ReplyDeleteThe clip as edited by mlb doesn't make a lot of sense. Until mlb has it taken down, this youtube makes it clear how long this was going on (2 pitches into the next at bat--the bat slam was after the first pitch and did not lead immediately to ejection): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WY7iEvcoBOI#! . I'd say Welke let that go on for quite a while--can't tell what Bautista was yelling, but I'm sure it was a not so polite critique of Welke's balls and strikes performance. He already stood and argued with him quite a while after the first at bat.
ReplyDeleteIs his roid rage not so glaringly obvious?
ReplyDeleteBautista is frustrated. He started off hot, has cooled slightly. The performance isn't gel ling like he's used to. Easier to blame someone else.
ReplyDeleteI think it is just "Blue Jays" not "Blue Jays Sox".
ReplyDeleteGame Master is right. Bautista's OPS in August is only 1.035, and over his last ten, it's a mere 1.309. That kind of slump can frustrate a player.
ReplyDeleteBig baby. I don't care if you are in the dugout, I don't care if you say "I'm not talking to you" or whatever...you act like a big baby like that and you have no business being on a baseball field. Go home and get your diaper changed.
