Ejections: Adrian Johnson (1)

1B Umpire Adrian Johnson ejected Rangers First Base Coach Gary Pettis for arguing an out call in the top of the 7th inning of the Rangers-Yankees game. With one out and one on, Rangers batter Elvis Andrus hit a 0-2 slider from Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain softly in front of the plate, catcher Russell Martin to first baseman Mark Teixeira. Replays indicate the ball entered Teixeira's glove slightly prior to Andrus' foot touching first base, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Yankees were leading, 5-4. The Yankees ultimately won the contest, 6-5.

This is Adrian Johnson (80)'s first ejection of 2011.

  1. This ruling has been challenged.

After review, the Quality of Correctness has been upheld. The call is now correct.

Upon initial examination, the out call appeared to be correct.

Upon further examination, including examination of the replay and real-time play, the determination of upholding the original Quality of Correctness was made. Upon further consultation of the initial play, it appears the first basemen possessed the ball before the foot of the runner touched first base. Using a frozen frame, along with the replay, shows that the out call was correct as the ball is in the glove of the first basemen. At this moment, the toe of the runner was in the air and the heel of the runner on the ground, which was not in contact with first base. The call is in no way obvious, nor can any video evidence be found to reverse the call, nor find it inconclusive.

    Denied.
