  1. And what if Hunter isn't ready yet? Todd Tichenor has been filling in for him in Houston this week.

  2. Congrats to all of these umps! They all deserve the honors esp. Hickox and Iasoggna, two guys that go under the radar but do a great job.

  3. Ever since Marsh has become an umpire executive Hunter has been given these high profile games...There are guys like Laz Diaz who are solid and deserve high profile games.

  4. A lot of the Wendelstedt teachers too....Nauert last year (deservingly so), Hickox, Hunter, Layne....gotta love the politics!

  5. I am not sure if I buy the whole politics argument...How do you explain the high profile games that a guy like Derryl Cousins has gotten over the last several seasons? Last season he was crew chief of a LCS series. He is obviously not one of Marsh's guys...Wally Bell got to work the LCS as well. John Hirschbeck was the WS Crew Chief. Do you really think he would have gotten that assignment if Marsh was calling the shots? Laz Diaz, by the way, got to work the AS game last year and the LCS in 2009. So he has not exactly been left out in the cold. Maybe, just maybe, these guys are getting the opportunity because they are solid umpires.

  6. I know a lot of people hate Wendelstedt, but he has really had a decent year. He actually has no ejections this year and has maybe been the most improved umpire this year. I am glad he is getting a shot at the ASG cause he actually deserves it. That being said, he is injured right now and may not be able to come back for the ASG. If he is not I wonder who will replace hime.

  7. Looks like Jerry Layne is going to need his All-star game bonus point, at the rate he's going. Also interesting they made the infield a split squad of two crews...

  8. you guys do understand that the umpires really don't care to work WS, or AG ? I know for a fact that they would rather have the time off. Most don't want the spotlight that is shined on the bad calls in the playoffs. Post season and the Allstar game, to a lesser extent, is not the prize you might think it is.

  9. I was at the game and Jerry Layne and Chris Guccione acted like they didn't care to be there. Jerry made a smelly gesture to someone in the stands while pointing at Wendelstedt after they hustled out to their positions at the start. He kept being goofy between innings the whole game.
Guccione stood about 7 feet behind Layne and was constantly streching and bending down between pitches and kept making signals to someone in the stands.
These 2 obviously didn't care to be there and don't care how unprofessional they look!
Dale Scott is a class act and worked his butt off as he always does!
