MLB Instant Replay S-42: Alan Porter & Injury: Brad Myers

Instant replay reversed 3B Umpire Alan Porter's out call in the bottom of the 5th inning of the Indians-Reds game. With one out and two on, Reds baserunner R2 Brandon Phillips attempted to steal third base as Indians catcher Luke Carlin threw to third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall. Upon instant replay review as the result of a challenge by Reds Manager Bryan Price, Porter's ruling that Chisenhall tagged Phillips while Phillips was off his base was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the instant replay review, the Reds were leading, 3-1. The Reds ultimately won the contest, 5-4.

This is Alan Porter (64)'s 1st instant replay challenge/review of Spring Training.

This is the 42nd instant replay review of 2014 Spring Training.
Reds Manager Bryan Price is now 1/2 (50% Success) in Instant Replay Challenges/Appeals this Spring.
Umpires are now 35/42 (83% Accuracy) in Instant Replay Reviews during 2014 MLB Spring Training

Porter's position inside during the challenged play was necessitated by three-man umpire mechanics due to an earlier injury to umpire Brad Myers. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, with two out and two on, Reds batter Phillips lined a 0-1 fastball directly at Myers, working inside at 2nd base on the shortstop side of the bag, as prescribed by mechanic. Replays indicate Myers attempted to jump away from the line drive, but was hit in the groin. The official scoring read: "John Tumpane replaces 3B Umpire Brad Myers." At the time of the injury, the Reds were leading, 3-0.
