MLB Instant Replay Review 481-482: Phil Cuzzi (06-07)

Instant Replay Review upheld 1B Umpire Phil Cuzzi's safe call in the bottom of the 3rd and overturned Cuzzi's safe call in the top of the 6th inning of the Nationals-Giants game. In the 3rd, with one out and one on, Giants batter Angel Pagan hit a 1-2 cutter from Nationals pitcher Doug Fister on the ground to second baseman Danny Espinoza, who tagged Giants baserunner R1 Madison Bumgarner and threw to first baseman Adam LaRoche as Pagan arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Nationals Manager Matt Williams, Cuzzi's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 0-0.

In the 6th, with two out and one on, Nationals batter Ian Desmond hit a 2-2 slider from Giants pitcher Bumgarner on the ground to first baseman Michael Morse, who threw to Bumgarner as Desmond arrived at first base. The Nationals ultimately won the contest, 2-1.
