MLB Ejection 140 - Tom Hallion (3; Caleb Smith)

HP Umpire Tom Hallion ejected Diamondbacks pitcher Caleb Smith (failed foreign substance inspection) in the top of the 8th inning of the #Phillies-#Diamondbacks game. Following Phillies batter Bryce Harper's fly out to conclude the top of the 8th inning and in accordance with MLB's June 2021 foreign substance enforcement protocol, umpires inspected Smith as the Arizona pitcher left the field. During this inspection, umpires located an illegal substance on Smith's glove, resulting in an ejection pursuant to Official Baseball Rule 6.02(c) regarding foreign substances, the call was irrecusable.* At the time of the ejection, the Diamondbacks were leading, 4-2. The Diamondbacks ultimately won the contest, 4-2.
