MLB Ejection 027 - Dan Iassogna (1; Willson Contreras)

HP Umpire Dan Iassogna ejected Cardinals DH Willson Contreras (strike one and two calls; QOCN) in the top of the 5th inning of the #Cardinals-#Mariners game. With none out and none on, Contreras took 0-0 and 2-1 sweepers from Mariners pitcher Penn Murfee for called first and second strikes before striking out on an ensuing pitch. Replays indicate both pitches were located over the heart of home plate and below the hollow of the knee (strike one: px 0.01, pz 1.34 [sz_bot 1.61 / RAD 1.49 / MOE 1.41] and strike two: px -0.31, pz 1.31 [sz_bot 1.61 / RAD 1.49 / MOE 1.41]), the call was incorrect.* At the time of the ejection, the Cardinals were leading, 6-3. The Cardinals ultimately won the contest, 7-3.

This is Dan Iassogna (58)'s 1st ejection of 2023.
*The 0-0 pitch was located 0.84 and 2-1 was located 1.20 vertical inches from being deemed correct.
^We also discuss Cardinals pitcher Genesis Cabrera who was warned, then penalized with an automatic ball for violating MLB's so-called Max Scherzer rule prohibiting pitchers from coming set before batters are in the box and alert to the pitcher. Cabrera illegally came set too early (before the batter was alert) on consecutive pitches during Mariners batter Julio Rodriguez's at-bat the bottom of the 7th inning.

This is the 27th ejection report of the 2023 MLB regular season.
This is the 12th player ejection of 2023.
This is St Louis' 2nd ejection of 2023, 1st in the NL Central (STL 2; CIN, PIT 1; CHC, MIL 0).
This is Willson Contreras' 1st ejection since May 20, 2022 (Ryan Additon; QOC = Y [Balls/Strikes]).
