Ejection 135: Ed Hickox (1)

2B Umpire Ed Hickox ejected Indians Manager Manny Acta for arguing a safe call in the bottom of the 8th inning of the Indians-Mariners game. With none out and none on, Mariners batter Kyle Seager hit a 2-0 fastball from Indians pitcher Vinnie Pestano to right fielder Shin-Soo Choo who threw to second base in an attempt to retire Seager. Replays indicate Seager successfully pulled his right arm back while reaching for second base with his left hand and was not tagged prior to contacting second base, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the contest was tied, 1-1. The Mariners ultimately won the contest, 3-1.

This is Ed Hickox (15)'s first ejection of 2012.
Ed Hickox now has 4 points in the UEFL (0 Previous + 2 MLB + 2 Correct Call = 4).
Crew Chief Wally Bell now has 1 point in the UEFL's Crew Division (0 Previous + 1 Correct Call = 1).

  4. Steve Berthiamue just ripped Hickox on Baseball Tonight for pointing his finger at Asdrubal Cabrera and saying he started the entire argument with his confrontational attitude. I don't put much stock into what he has to say as he is a host who has never played baseball on the Pro level, but does he have point? pun not intended.

    1. I'm sure Steve knows exactly what Cabrera said to mf Hickox after he called him out...idiot!!! Hickox is one of the best...he had a tough night two games before on the stick...hit in the cup, hit on his hand, and a shot off his bucket. Eddie doesn't look for crap...Cabrera was out...he was pissed and popped off...BAM!!! He's gone.

  5. Berthiume is a real piece of work, about the worst baseball studio person out there.

  6. Fan of finger pointing, not per say. But that also might be Eddie telling Cabrera that he's wrong and better stop it because he missed the tag and he was damn sure he was right.

  7. Eddie Hickox too aggressive......you've never heard that before. Ed is an able umpire who goes about his business hoping not to be noticed, because if the spotlight shines he never arises to the occasion. Look at his playoff record. It speaks volumes.

  8. This is a great example of timing. Ball arrived in time, but tag was late and on the chest/neck/shoulder. Hickox waited for the play to develop.

  9. Cabrera went to the wrong side of the bag with the tag. Great slide by Seager, he was meat. Ed did a nice job here, right in on the play, great timing. The pointing does not look good on video but I imagine he is trying to keep him in the game by telling him not to talk about earlier plays which will get you run.

I wish I would of thought of this a long time ago but when you post the video can you also put which teams feed its from. Sometimes it is hard to tell which team because even if its in favor of a certain team most announcers like to blast umpires no matter what. Just a thought.

  13. Relying on ESPN for umpiring analysis is like relying on MLB Network for umpiring analysis which is like relying on CBS Sports for umpiring analysis which is like relying on Fox Sports for umpiring analysis which is like relying on YES Network for umpiring analysis which is slightly better than relying on Hawk Harrelson for umpiring analysis.

  14. Thanks Lou. By the way, Acta has been ejected more recently than the Bellino toss last year. He was ejected by Gary Darling in April.
