MiLB Ejection of Week: Kolin Kline (1)

For this week's Minor League ejection, we visit umpire Kolin Kline (3B), who on Wednesday ejected Round Rock Express Manager Bobby Jones for arguing an obstruction no-call. Also featured during this sequence are umpires Chris Segal (1B) and Brandon Misun (HP). Kline began the 2012 season in the Southern League and worked the 2012 SL All-Star Game (plate), while Misun began 2012 in the Texas League before being promoted. Segal umpired in the PCL last season as well. (2012 PCL Roster)

The Minor League Ejection of the Week showcases the brightest Triple-A talent and biggest MiLB meltdowns with a special "Thank You" to UEFL'er Russ, who has been filling us in on all the AAA ejection action.

In the bottom of the 9th inning of the Pacific Coast League (PCL)'s Nashville Sounds vs. Express contest, with none out and two on, Express batter Yangervis Solarte hit a 1-1 pitch from Sounds hurler Robert Wooten to first baseman Jordan Brown, who stepped on first base for one out before firing to shortstop Eric Farris, who tagged R1 Matt Kata out at second base for a double play, though Jones argued that Kata had been obstructed by second baseman Adrian Williams, who Kata alleged physically impeded his attempt at advancement. Replays do not indicate whether obstruction occurred as the camera only pans toward the second base area as R1 is sliding into second base, well past where F4 was stationed. At the time of the ejection, the contest was tied, 6-6. The Express ultimately won the contest, 7-6, in 11 innings.

  1. How did he not eject the runner?!? That's an automatic in my book

  2. Wally Bell just dumped MN P Scott Diamond and Manager Ron Gardenhire.

  3. It's not conclusive by any stretch, but to me the video shows the obstruction occurring while the fielder is in the process of receiving a thrown ball. That's a no-no in FED, but allowed under OBR.

  5. Everyone complains how bad the mlb annoucers are. I can even begin to imagine how bad milb annoucers are. I would probably not even be able to handle listening to them and would have to mute every close call.

  6. oswalt threw behind mauer and then diamond threw at hamiltons head probably non intended to be that high but it was definite retaliation- bell according to the commentators didn't want to throw him out but had to because it was the mlb rule

  9. I think the argument for the obstruction was with the second basemen, not the shortstop covering second base.

The kid in that GCL link, named George, is a black belt in Jiu Ditsu.....just a nugget of information for you.

  10. These announcers are a couple of real slapdicks.

"I don't know that they're assigned to the PCL". Well they sure as hell aren't assigned to the NY-Penn League! Where do they get this stuff? Who cares if they're young or not? Do these guys think there are going to be a bunch of 40 year-old guys umpiring in Triple A?

  11. I can't get any of the UEFL videos to play on Telly. Is there some kind of trick to get it to work?

  12. Correct me if I am wrong, if he gave up the base and the umpire deemed he would have made it even though he was obstructed, he is out.

*Obstruction is only an automatic base in federation rules.
