Site News: Disqus Commenting System Now Active

Pursuant to the 2012 UEFL Rules Summit and UEFL Rule 8-1, website commenting will now be conducted via the Disqus commenting system. In leaving a message, you may connect with services Twitter, Facebook or Google, or you may sign up with Disqus via the "D" logo shown at the base of the commenting interface or by filling out "Name," "Email" and selecting the "Register with Disqus" checkbox. In addition to preserving your comment history and being notified of replies, Disqus also allows comment minimization and flagging (top right of any comment, "Flag as Inappropriate"), sharing, voting/reactions and a streamlined way to replay to a specific comment. Interface tabs include Discussion (in-thread commenting), Community (links to other discussions on Close Call Sports) and, if you are logged in, a Disqus profile console.

Anonymous commenting has been enabled on a trial basis.

  1. This is gonna take some getting used to...

I would rather post under my nickname. Is there anyway to do so without having to post Anon?

  2. This was a necessary change. For every 1 good anon post, there would be three or four jackasses posting just to insult people. Hopefully this will stop some of the trolling.

  4. If you connect with Twitter/Facebook/Google or signup with Disqus, you'll be automatically logged in throughout the site (cookies), though I do see "Cricket" as the display name for your post.

  9. I posted under "Enter a name" because it showed my full name when I logged in through Google.

I see some folks are having double posting problems.

  11. A bit of a glitch trying to register with Disqus. Personally, I don't think this fixes anything -- if Anonymous posting is still allowed, how is this an improvement over the previous system?

  12. Ah. Disqus takes the display name from your Google Profile (http://profiles.google.com); Google has their own TOS for display names there.

  13. I can better moderate the Anon posters with this system. It will allow certain persons who must post anonymously (e.g., active MiLB) to continue with valuable contributions, yet we'll also be able to more quickly and efficiently take care of problems.

  16. I love sports and am so grateful for what I had growing up. One of my greatest possessions is a baseball bat display rack with a historic bat on it and all the great memories that come with it.
