HP Umpire Will Little ejected Tigers P Max Scherzer for arguing a strike three call in the top of the 7th inning of the Tigers-Yankees game. With none out and one on, Tigers batter Torii Hunter took a 1-2 fastball from Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova for a called third strike. Replays indicate the pitch was located midpoint high and over the inner edge of home plate (sz_top 3.420, pz 3.106; px -0.878), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Yankees were leading, 2-1. The Yankees ultimately won the contest, 4-3.
This is Will Little (93)'s second ejection of 2013.

ReplyDeleteI don't what you use to determine if a pitch is a strike but try watching the game. I was watching the game and is was a ball. Replays showed it was a ball. Kin Singleton-- the yank analyst--- said it was a ball.

Scherzer had absolutely nothing to do with this ejection. This is a textbook case [reference the Holbrook/Vizquel ejection] of an umpire having thrown someone [but no one in particular] out from the dugout. Considering Scherzer pitched last night, Leyland made the easy move to send him to the clubhouse early.

ReplyDeleteThis challenge has been summarily denied. The Appellate Interpreter finds that the intent and meaning of Rule 6-2-b-5 AR applies only to the QOC ejections defined in parent rule Rule 6-2-b-5, namely "Fighting, Throwing At, Unsportsmanlike Conduct-NEC, or Excess Contact." Because this ejection concerns a QOC: Correct / QOC: Incorrect determination for a Balls/Strikes reason for ejection, the irrecusable disposition for a Rule 6-2-b-5 ejection type does not apply.

Certiorari denied as QOC rules were correctly applied.
