MLB Ejections 79-81 - Dan Bellino (6-8; CWS x3)

HP Umpire Dan Bellino ejected White Sox pitcher Jimmy Cordero (throwing at Cubs batter Willson Contreras), manager Rick Renteria and pitching coach Don Cooper (ejection/warnings Unsportsmanlike-NEC) in the top of the 7th inning of the #Cubs-#WhiteSox game. With one out and none on, Contreras took two 98-mph sinkers from Cordero, the second for a hit-by-pitch. Replays indicate both pitches were located inside and high, with the HBP striking Contreras in the upper back several innings following a home run during which Contreras flipped his bat high in the air, the call was irrecusable. At the time of the ejections, the Cubs were leading, 7-0. The Cubs ultimately won the contest, 10-0.

These are Dan Bellino (2)'s sixth, seventh, and eighth ejections of 2020.

MLB Ejections 106-107 - Fieldin Culbreth (1-2; CWS x2)

3B Umpire Fieldin Culbreth ejected White Sox Pitching Coach Don Cooper and Manager Rick Renteria (checks swing ball four call) in the top of the 1st inning of the Blue Jays-White Sox game. With none out and one on, Blue Jays batter Kendrys Morales attempted to check his swing on a 3-2 fastball from White Sox pitcher Reynaldo Lopez, ruled a ball and no swing by HP Umpire CB Bucknor and affirmed on appeal as no swing by 3B Umpire Culbreth (the pitch was properly officiated location-wise as a ball; pz 1.194 [sz_bot 1.565]). Play was adjudicated and reversed by the UEFL Appeals Board, the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the Blue Jays were leading, 2-0. The Blue Jays ultimately won the contest, 10-5.

MLB Ejection 036 - Tripp Gibson (1; Don Cooper)

HP Umpire Tripp Gibson ejected White Sox Pitching Coach Don Cooper (ball four call) in the bottom of the 7th inning of the White Sox-Angels game. With one out and the bases loaded, Angels batter Luis Valbuena took four consecutive pitches from White Sox pitcher Dan Jennings for called balls. Replays indicate all four pitches to Valbuena, including the decisive fourth ball located off the outer edge of home plate (px -1.01, pz 2.00), and all eligible pitches during the preceding Albert Pujols at-bat (which also resulted in a walk), were located outside of the strike zone or within borderline territory as specified by UEFL Rules 6-2-b-1, the "unrealistic outcome" clause of 6-2-b-3 (closest px value was -.759), and contributory pitch provision of Rule 6-5-c-5-d, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Angels were leading, 4-2. The Angels ultimately won the contest, 7-6, in 11 innings.

MLB Ejection 130 - Pat Hoberg (3; Don Cooper)

HP Umpire Pat Hoberg ejected White Sox Pitching Coach Don Cooper for arguing a ball three call in the bottom of the 1st inning of the Royals-White Sox game. With none out and none on, Royals batter Paulo Orlando took a 2-2 fastball from White Sox pitcher Jose Quintana for a called third ball. Replays indicate the pitch was located off the inner edge of home plate and thigh high (px -.998, pz 2.454), that the ball two pitch was located over the inner edge of home plate and above the midpoint (px -.772, pz 3.515 [sz_top 3.500]), and that ball one was located off the plate (px 1.311), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 0-0.

MLB Ejections 081|082 - Hernandez, Barrett (TOR-CWS)

1B Umpire Angel Hernandez ejected White Sox Pitching Coach Don Cooper for arguing a balk call in the top of the 6th and 3B Umpire Ted Barrett ejected Blue Jays Manager John Gibbons for arguing a foul ball call by HP Umpire Gabe Morales in the top of the 9th inning of the Blue Jays-White Sox game. In the 6th, with one out and one on (R1), White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodon was called for a balk. Replays indicate Rodon, pitching from Set Position, did not appear to come to a complete stop pursuant to Rule 5.07(a)(2) and 6.02(a)(13) before delivering his pitch to Blue Jays batter Troy Tulowitzki, the call was correct. Play was reviewed and affirmed by the UEFL Appeals Board, the call was correct.* In the 9th, with one out and none on, Blue Jays batter Darwin Barney attempted to strike a 1-2 knuckle curve from White Sox pitcher David Robertson, the ball bouncing away from catcher Alex Avila and into dead ball territory. Initially ruled a swinging strike by HP Umpire Morales, upon consultation amongst the umpires, Morales ruled the play a foul ball. Replays indicate Barney's bat made contact with the pitched baseball, the call was correct. At the time of the Cooper's ejection, the White Sox were leading, 2-1. At the time of Gibbons' ejection, the White Sox were leading, 3-2. The White Sox ultimately won the contest, 3-2.

MLB Ejection 120: Greg Gibson (1; Don Cooper)

HP Umpire Greg Gibson ejected White Sox Pitching Coach Don Cooper for arguing a strike three call in the bottom of the 8th inning of the Yankees-White Sox game. With one out and none on, White Sox batter Tyler Flowers took a 3-2 fastball from Yankees pitcher David Robertson for a called third strike. Replays indicate
Video proves the pitch was a strike.
the decisive pitch was located knee high and over the inner half of home plate (sz_bot 1.570, pz 1.640; px 0.246) while the other called strike during at bat—strike one—was located belt high and over the inner half of home plate (pz 2.022; px 0.455); strike two was a foul ball, the entire at-bat was officiated properly and the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Yankees were leading, 4-3. The White Sox ultimately won the contest, 6-5, in 12 innings.
