3B Umpire Phil Cuzzi ejected Orioles 1B Ryan O'Hearn (check swing strike three call) in the top of the 9th inning of the #Orioles-#Guardians game. With none out and none on, Orioles batter O'Hearn attempted to check his swing on a 1-2 slider from Guardians pitcher Hunter Gaddis, ruled a ball by HP Umpire Dan Bellino and called a swinging strike on appeal by 3B Umpire Cuzzi. At the time of the ejection, the Guardians were leading, 10-5. The Guardians ultimately won the contest, 10-5.

With one out and the bases loaded, Padres batter Jurickson Profar hit a 2-2 changeup from Orioles pitcher Yennier Cano on the ground to shortstop Gunnar Henderson, who stepped on second base to force out Padres baserunner R1 Tyler Wade, before colliding with Wade and becoming unable to complete his throw attempt to first base, called slide rule interference by 2B Umpire Barber for a double play. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Padres manager Mike Shildt, the call was overturned to no interference and a force out (only). At the time of the ejection, the Orioles were leading, 8-6. The Orioles ultimately won the contest, 8-6.

With two out and one on (R2), Pirates batter Kevin Newman hit a 1-2 slider from Orioles pitcher Keegan Akin on the ground to shortstop Jorge Mateo, who after recovering the ball in fair territory behind third base, threw to catcher Robinson Chirinos as Pirates baserunner R2 Greg Allen arrived at home plate, ruled out by HP Umpire Torres and overturned to safe due to illegal plate blocking by Chirinos after a challenge by Pirates manager Derek Shelton. Replays indicate that catcher Chirinos failed to provide Allen with a pathway to home plate pursuant to the terms of Rule 6.01(i)(2) prior to moving to receive the thrown ball, the plate blocking violation (safe) call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Pirates were leading, 5-1. The Pirates ultimately won the contest, 8-1.

With two out and none on, Mancini hit a 0-0 sinker from A's pitcher Paul Blackburn on the ground to second baseman Nick Allen, who threw wildly past first base, where it was picked up by catcher Sean Murphy, who tagged Mancini as Mancini was off the base, having passed first base, alleging that Mancini had made an attempt toward second base and, thus, was no longer entitled, to baseball's first base overrun protection, resulting in an out. Replays indicate Mancini, after passing first base, continued up the foul line while looking at the overthrown ball and very slightly moved to his left, such that Mancini passed first base in foul territory and ended up stepping into fair territory. Play was reviewed and OVERTURNED by the UEFL Appeals Board (7-0), the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejections, the A's were leading, 2-0. The A's ultimately won the contest, 6-4.

MLB Ejection 074 - Nestor Ceja (1; Brandon Hyde)

1B Umpire Nestor Ceja ejected Orioles manager Brandon Hyde (check swing hit-by-pitch call) in the bottom of the 1st inning of the #Orioles-#Indians game. With none out and one on (R1), Indians batter Amed Rosario attempted to check his swing on a 3-2 fastball from Orioles pitcher Dean Kremer, ruled a foul ball and no swing by HP Umpire Jim Wolf, affirmed as no swing by 1B Umpire Ceja, and overturned to a hit-by-pitch upon Replay Review as the result of a Manager's Challenge by Indians manager Terry Francona. Play was reviewed and adjudicated by the UEFL Appeals Board (9-0), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 0-0. The Indians ultimately won the contest, 4-3.

MLB Ejection 002 - Jeremie Rehak (1; Brandon Hyde)

HP Umpire Jeremie Rehak ejected Orioles Manager Brandon Hyde (dead ball strike check swing call; QOCY) in the bottom of the 4th inning of the #RedSox-#Orioles game. With two out and none on, Orioles batter Rio Ruiz was touched by a 0-1 changeup from Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez, ruled a swinging strike on appeal by 3B Umpire Scott Barry, resulting in a dead ball strike two call. Replays indicate Ruiz attempted to strike the pitch as the baseball touched his lower leg, the call was correct (OBR Definition of Terms: "A STRIKE is a legal pitch when so called by the umpire, which...touches the batter as he strikes at it"). Play was reviewed and adjudicated by the UEFL Appeals Board, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Orioles were leading, 3-2. The Red Sox ultimately won the contest, 7-3.

With two out and one on, Braves batter Ronald Acuna attempted to check his swing on a 2-1 slider from Orioles pitcher Paul Fry, ruled a ball by HP Umpire Ryan Additon and affirmed as no swing on appeal by 1B Umpire Miller. Play was reviewed and adjudicated by the UEFL Appeals Board (8-0), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Braves were leading, 2-0. The Braves ultimately won the contest, 5-1.
