With one out and one on (R1), Rays pitcher Alex Cobb was called for a balk before Red Sox batter Rookie Betts took a 2-2 fastball from Cobb for a called third ball, singling into left field on the ensuing pitch. Replays indicate Cobb failed to step toward first base during his pickoff attempt, while the 2-2 pitch was located over the outer half of home plate and above the hollow of the knee (px .497, pz 1.802 [sz_bot 1.487 / MOE 1.570]), the call was incorrect.* At the time of the ejection, the Red Sox were leading, 1-0. The Red Sox ultimately won the contest, 3-1.

With two out and none on, Morrison took a 0-2 fastball from Padres pitcher Tony Sipp for a called third strike, immediately following two earlier called strikes to begin the at bat. Replays indicate the earlier pitches were located within the bounds of the strike zone while the decisive pitch was located thigh high and off the outer edge of home plate (px = -1.093), the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the Mariners were leading, 5-4. The contest ultimately ended in a tie, 5-5, in regulation.
