MLB Ejection 092 - Mark Ripperger (2; Dave Martinez)

HP Umpire Mark Ripperger ejected Nationals manager Dave Martinez (Replay Review decision that upheld out call; QOCY) in the top of the 5th inning of the #Nationals-#Angels game. With one out and the bases loaded, Nationals batter Luis García hit a 3-2 slider from Angels pitcher José Fermin on the ground to first baseman Nolan Schanuel, who stepped on first base to retire batter-runner García before throwing to catcher Logan O'Hoppe, who tagged Nationals baserunner R2 Jacob Young, ruled out by HP Umpire Ripperger and affirmed by Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Nationals manager Martinez. Replays do not clearly and convincingly suggest the whether the catcher tagged the runner while off base, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Nationals were leading, 2-1. The Nationals ultimately won the contest, 7-4, in 11 innings.

MLB Ejection 066 - Malachi Moore (1; Dave Martinez)

HP Umpire Malachi Moore ejected Nationals manager Dave Martinez (check swing dead ball strike three call) in the top of the 3rd inning of the #Nationals-#Guardians game. With two out and none on, Nationals batter Jacob Young attempted to check his swing on a 1-2 fastball from Guardians pitcher Ben Lively for a swinging third strike, called by Moore, as the pitch touched the batter's hand.* Although Martinez signaled a "hold" for consideration about whether to challenge the play, the Nationals ran out of time as the 15-second challenge timer expired before Martinez requested a review. Replays indicate the pitched ball touched Young's hand as he struck at the pitch, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Guardians were leading, 2-0. The Guardians ultimately won the contest, 3-2.

MLB Ejection 017 - Cory Blaser (1; Dave Martinez)

HP Umpire Cory Blaser ejected Nationals manager Dave Martinez (obstruction no-call [out call] by 2B Umpire Nate Tomlinson; QOCN) in the bottom of the 8th inning of the #Astros-Nationals game. With two out and one on, Nationals baserunner Ildemaro Vargas attempted to steal second base on a 2-2 fastball from Astros pitcher Ryan Pressly to Nationals batter CJ Abrams, Astros catcher Yainer Diaz to shortstop Jeremy Peña, ruled out by 2B Umpire Tomlinson and affirmed following Replay Review as a result of a challenge by Nationals manager Martinez. Replays indicate the runner appeared to be tagged prior to touching second base, but that he was obstructed by virtue of fielder Peña illegally placing his leg in the path of the runner without the ball and without needing to occupy that space to field the ball, the call was incorrect. Obstruction is not a reviewable play. At the time of the ejection, the Astros were leading, 5-2. The Astros ultimately won the contest, 5-3.

With none out and one on, Nats batter Dominic Smith hit a first-pitch fastball from Mariners pitcher Logan Gilbert to right fielder Teoscar, who threw to second baseman Jose Caballero to catcher Tom Murphy as Nationals baserunner Keibert Ruiz arrived at home plate, ruled out of the base path by HP Umpire Thomas. Replays indicate Ruiz appeared to deviate by more than three feet from his base path, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Nationals were leading, 3-0. The Nationals ultimately won the contest, 4-1.

In the top of the 5th, D-Backs batter Kelly took a 0-0 sinker from Nats pitcher Jake Irvin for a called first ball. Replays indicate the pitch was located over the outer half of home plate and below the midpoint (px 0.51, pz 1.27 [sz_bot 1.61 / RAD 1.49), the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Diamondbacks were leading, 2-1. The Diamondbacks ultimately won the contest, 5-3.

2B Umpire Dan Iassogna ejected Nationals manager Dave Martinez (obstruction call by 3B Umpire John Bacon; QOCN) in the top of the 10th inning of the #Phillies-#Nationals game. With one out and two on (R2, R3), Phillies batter JT Realmuto hit a 1-1 sinker from Nationals pitcher Steve Cishek for a ground ball up the middle scoring both Nationals baserunners after a collision beyond second base between Phillies baserunner R2 Rhys Hoskins and Nationals shortstop Luis Garcia, ruled obstruction (type 2) by 3B Umpire Bacon, who awarded R2 Hoskins home plate, scoring a run. Replays indicate the collision occurred as shortstop Garcia dove for, and was in the act of fielding, the batted ball; therefore, the right-of-way rules give fielder Garcia priority consideration pursuant to Official Baseball Rule 6.01(a)(10). This is interference by the runner, the call was incorrect.* At the time of the ejection, the Phillies were leading, 8-6. The Phillies ultimately won the contest, 8-7, in 10 innings.

3B Umpire Doug Eddings ejected Nationals manager Dave Martinez (runner's lane interference call by HP Umpire Adam Beck; QOCY) in the top of the 10th inning of the #Nationals-#Marlins game. With two out and the bases loaded, Nationals batter Josh Bell hit a 3-2 changeup from Marlins pitcher Dylan Floro on the ground to first baseman Lewin Diaz, who threw to catcher Nick Fortes to retire Marlins baserunner R3 Luis Garcia, and back to Diaz at first base, ruled runner's lane interference as the throw hit Bell in the back as Bell hit Diaz's glove off of his hand. Replays indicate Bell failed to run within the 3-foot running lane at any point during his journey to first base, and, in doing so, interfered with the fielder taking the throw at first base, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 7-7. The Marlins ultimately won the contest, 8-7, in 10 innings.

Play was reviewed and adjudicated by the UEFL Appeals Board, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Mets were leading, 6-0. The Mets ultimately won the contest, 11-9.

HP Umpire Chris Conroy ejected Nationals manager Dave Martinez (runner's lane interference call; QOCY) in the top of the 7th inning of the #Nationals-#Cubs game. With none out and none on, Nationals batter Trea Turner swung at and missed a 1-2 fastball from Cubs pitcher Tommy Nance, the pitched ball evading catcher Willson Contreras for an uncaught third strike before Contreras threw to first base in an attempt to retire batter-runner Turner. Replays indicate Turner failed to legally enter the runner's lane by virtue of running inside (to the left of) the foul line, and in doing so interfered with Cubs 1B PJ Higgins taking the throw at first base in accordance with rule 5.09(a)(11), the call was correct.* Play was reviewed and AFFIRMED by the UEFL Appeals Board (5-3), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Nationals were leading, 4-2. The Nationals ultimately won the contest, 4-3.

MLB Ejection P1 - Sam Holbrook (3; Dave Martinez)

HP Umpire Sam Holbrook ejected Nationals Manager Dave Martinez (runner's lane interference call; QOCY) in the top of the 7th inning of #Nationals-#Astros #WorldSeries Game 6. With none out and one on (R1), Nats batter Trea Turner hit a 0-0 fastball from Astros pitcher Brad Peacock on the ground to Peacock, who threw to first baseman Yuli Gurriel as Turner arrived, resulting in an interference call and extensive Replay Review as the result of an attempt to protest the game by the Nationals, officially classified as a rules check (RLI is not reviewable), which was disallowed as a result of baseball's longstanding prohibition on protesting judgment calls. Replays indicate Turner failed to run within the three-foot-wide runner's lane the entire distance from the 45-foot mark to first base, while Gurriel failed to catch Peacock's throw as a result of interference from Turner when Gurriel's hand and glove made contact with Turner prior to the ball's arrival at the contact plane, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Nationals were leading, 5-2. The Nationals ultimately won the contest, 7-2.

HP Umpire Bruce Dreckman ejected Nationals 1B Howie Kendrick and Manager Dave Martinez (check swing strike three call) in the top of the 8th inning of the Nationals-Mets game. With none out and none on, Nationals batter Kendrick attempted to check his swing on a 2-2 curveball from Mets pitcher Robert Gsellman, ruled a swinging third strike by HP Umpire Dreckman, pursuant to the responsibilities of a plate umpire as delineated in Official Baseball Rule 8.03(a)(4).* Ruling was reviewed and adjudicated by the UEFL Appeals Board (9-0-0), the call was correct. At the time of the ejections, the Mets were leading, 3-1. The Mets ultimately won the contest, 6-4.

Replays indicate the pitch was located over the outer edge of home plate and at the midpoint (px 0.62, pz 3.38 [sz_top 3.22 / RAD 3.343 / MOE 3.426]) and that all other pitches during the at-bat were properly officiated, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Giants were leading, 3-1. The Giants ultimately won the contest, 7-3.
