With none out and none on, Astros batter Alex Bregman took a 1-0 sinker from Royals pitcher Mike Montgomery for a called second ball before taking a 3-1 sinker for a called fourth ball. Replays indicate the 1-0 pitch was located over the heart of home plate and above the hollow of the knee (px -0.09, pz 1.73 [sz_bot 1.55 / MOE 1.63] [sz_bot 1.54 / MOE 1.62]) while the 3-1 pitch was located off the inner edge of home plate and thigh-high (px -0.82, pz 2.54), the call was incorrect.* At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 0-0. The Astros ultimately won the contest, 6-1.

MLB Ejections 025-28 - Joe West (1-4; KC-CWS Fight)

2B Umpire Joe West ejected Royals pitcher Brad Keller (throwing at White Sox batter Tim Anderson), White Sox SS Tim Anderson, Manager Rick Renteria, and Royals Bench Coach Dale Sveum (fighting) in the bottom of the 6th inning of the Royals-White Sox game. In the 4th, with two out and one on (R2), Anderson hit a 3-2 fastball from Keller for a two-run home run, appearing to flip his bat at home plate. In the 6th, Anderson took a first-pitch fastball from Keller for a hit-by-pitch, resulting in a bench-clearing incident. Replays indicate the pitch was located inside and struck Anderson in the left buttock, warnings had not previously been issued, the call was irrecusable. At the time of the ejections, the game was tied, 2-2. The Royals ultimately won the contest, 4-3, in 10 innings.

With none out and none on, Indians batter Melky Cabrera doubled off Royals pitcher Brad Keller, Jason Kipnis lined out, Yan Gomes struck out swinging, and Greg Allen grounded out. Replays indicate of the six callable pitches thrown during the inning, five were officiated correctly (the 0-0 pitch to Kipnis ruled a ball was located in the strike zone; Kipnis lined out on the next pitch), the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 1-1. The Indians ultimately won the contest, 3-1.

MLB Ejection 140 - Todd Tichenor (3; Dale Sveum)

HP Umpire Todd Tichenor ejected Royals Hitting Coach Dale Sveum for arguing a runner's lane interference call in the bottom of the 1st inning of the Twins-Royals game. With none out and none on, Royals batter Paulo Orlando bunted a 1-0 fastball from Twins pitcher Tyler Duffey to catcher Kurt Suzuki, who threw to first baseman Trevor Plouffe as Orlando arrived at first base. Replays indicate Orlando ran inside (to the left of) the lane line and thus failed to remain within the runner's lane, but that Orlando's actions in running inside the line did not interfere with Plouffe because Suzuki's throw was of poor quality and likely could not have reasonably retired the runner (the throw was to the right/foul territory side of first base), the call was incorrect.* Ruling was challenged and affirmed by the UEFL Appeals Board (7-0-1), the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the Twins were leading, 1-0. The Royals ultimately won the contest, 8-1.

1B Umpire Chris Guccione ejected Royals Hitting Coach Dale Sveum for arguing a check swing (strike three) call in the top of the 7th inning of the Royals-White Sox game. With two out and two on, Royals batter Salvador Perez attempted to check his swing on a 2-2 splitter from White Sox pitcher Chris Sale. Play was reviewed and adjudicated by the UEFL Appeals Board (Check Swing; 5-3-1), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the White Sox were leading, 7-5. The White Sox ultimately won the contest, 7-5.

attempted to check his swing on a 2-2 fastball from Cubs pitcher Edwin Jackson, initially ruled a ball by HP Umpire Kerwin Danley and appealed to Barksdale for review. Replays are inconclusive as to whether Puig attempted to strike the pitch, the call has been referred to the UEFL Appeals Board for further review. After review, the call is now incorrect.* At the time of the ejection, the contest was tied, 0-0. The Dodgers ultimately won the contest, 4-0.

MLB Ejection 101: Dana DeMuth (1; Dale Sveum)

HP Umpire Dana DeMuth ejected Cubs Manager Dale Sveum for arguing a strike three call in the top of the 3rd inning of the Cubs-Diamondbacks game. With two out and two on, Cubs batter Cody Ransom took a 3-2

Replays indicate the pitch was located thigh high and over the inner half of home plate (sz_bot 1.600, pz 1.762; px -0.269) and that all callable pitches (three balls, one other strike) during the at bat were officiated correctly, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Cubs were leading, 1-0. The Diamondbacks ultimately won the contest, 10-4.

MLB Ejection 080: DJ Reyburn (2; Dale Sveum)

HP Umpire DJ Reyburn ejected Cubs Manager Dale Sveum for arguing a safe call in the bottom of the 7th inning of the Cubs-Cardinals game. With one on and two out, Cardinals batter Pete Kozma hit a 0-2 fastball

from Cubs pitcher Travis Wood on the ground to third baseman Luis Valbuena, who threw towards first base in an attempt to retire Kozma. The throw in the dirt was blocked by Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who then threw above catcher Welington Castillo's head and off of the backstop, where Castillo fielded the carom and threw to pitcher Wood, covering home, as Cardinals baserunner R3 Yadier Molina attempted to score. Replays indicate Wood's glove tagged Molina's upper thigh prior to Molina's left foot contacting the corner of home plate, the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the Cardinals were leading, 3-0. The Cardinals ultimately won the contest, 5-2.

HP Umpire Joe West ejected Chicago Cubs Manager Dale Sveum for arguing a safe call by 1B Umpire Toby Basner in the top of the 2nd inning of the Diamondbacks-Cubs game. With one out and none on,
West ushers a defiant Sveum to the dugout.
Diamondbacks batter AJ Pollock hit a 2-2 fastball from Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija on the ground to second baseman Darwin Barney, who threw to first baseman Anthony Rizzo as Pollock arrived at first base, resulting in Basner's call of "safe." Replays indicate Barney appeared to catch the ball with his foot on the base prior to Pollock's contact of first base, the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the Cubs were leading, 3-1. The Diamondbacks ultimately won the contest, 12-4.
