Referees Mike Callahan (crew chief), Josh Tiven (R) and Zach Zarba (R2/umpire) ejected Bucks center Larry Sanders for a second conduct technical foul and Mike Dunleavy for a flagrant foul penalty two during the second half of the Bucks-Pacers game. With 7:54 remaining in the third quarter, Sanders received two unsporting technical fouls, resulting in his automatic ejection. That ball hit the ref and bounced back into the court... shouldn't they have played on?

In a word, no. NBA Rule 8-II-a specifies, "the ball is out-of-bounds when it touches a player who is out-of-bounds or any other person, the floor, or any object on, above or outside of a boundary of the supports or back of the backboard." A referee qualifies as "any other person."

The NBA has issued a warning to Gerald Wallace (Brooklyn Nets) for violating the league's anti-flopping rule. Wallace's actions in faking a foul drew an incorrect offensive foul call from Crew Chief Derrick Stafford.

Flopping: Reggie Evans Fined $5,000 for Faking a Foul

The NBA has issued a fine in connection with a player's second violation of the league's anti-flopping rule. Reggie Evans (Brooklyn Nets) has been fined $5,000 for violating the league's policy for a second time in less than a week. This is the first fine under the league's new anti-flopping rule.

NBA Flopping Warnings: Reggie Evans, Kevin Martin

The NBA has issued flopping warnings to Reggie Evans (Brooklyn Nets) and Kevin Martin (Oklahoma City Thunder) for violating the league's anti-flopping rule.

NBA Issues First Two Flopping Warnings of 2012-13 Season

The NBA has officially warned guards Donald Sloan (Cleveland Cavaliers) and J.J. Barea (Minnesota Timberwolves) for flopping in the first instance of discipline for violating the NBA's new anti-flopping rule.

Further flop actions by either Sloan or Barea found to be egregious will result in a $5,000 fine. A third violation of the anti-flopping provision will result in a $10,000 fine, followed by a $15,000 fine for a fourth violation and a fine of $30,000 for a fifth.

In early October, the NBA issued a press release announcing progressive flop discipline. Under its terms:

A “flop” is an attempt to either fool referees into calling undeserved fouls or fool fans into thinking the referees missed a foul call by exaggerating the effect of contact with an opposing player.

Sloan's actions in falling to the floor during a legal screen and Barea's arm actions after incidental contact constituted a "flop" as defined above.

Olympic Soccer Ejection: Wilmar Roldan

Olympic referee Wilmar Roldan ejected Swiss MF Oliver Buff (2nd yellow-red) for flopping in the 78th minute of the Gabon-Switzerland contest Thursday. Dribbling the ball through the top of the penalty box, Buff split two Gabon defenders before tumbling to the ground in search of a penalty shot call. Instead, Roldan immediately issued the simulation-diving (flopping) yellow card, which, by virtue of the card being Buff's second, automatically resulted in a red and an Olympic soccer ejection. Replays indicate Buff was not fouled by either defender and went to the ground on his own, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the contest was tied, 1-1. The match ultimately ended in a draw, 1-1.

Wilmar Alexander Roldán Pérez is a 32-year-old Columbian football referee, associated domestically since 2003 and with FIFA since 2008. He officiated the Copa América tournament in 2011.
