MLB Ejection 114: Marty Foster (2; Ron Gardenhire)

HP Umpire Marty Foster ejected Twins Manager Ron Gardenhire for arguing a balk call in the bottom of the 3rd inning of the Yankees-Twins game. With none out and one on, Yankees pitcher David Phelps unsuccessfully attempted to pick off Twins baserunner R1 Sam Fuld at first base, culminating in Twins Manager Gardenhire's request for a balk call. Replays indicate Phelps appeared to make a motion with his free foot naturally associated with his pitch prior to disengaging the pitcher's plate with his pivot foot, the call was incorrect.* At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 0-0. The Twins ultimately won the contest, 2-1, in 11 innings.

This is Marty Foster (60)'s second ejection of the 2014 MLB Regular Season.
Marty Foster now has -2 points in the UEFL Standings (0 Previous + 2 MLB - 4 Incorrect Call = -2).
Crew Chief Joe West now has 6 points in Crew Division (6 Previous + 0 Incorrect Call = 6).
*Rule 8.05: "If there is a runner, or runners, it is a balk when...(a) The pitcher, while touching his plate, makes any motion naturally associated with his pitch and fails to make such delivery...(c) The pitcher, while touching his plate, fails to step directly toward a base before throwing to that base."
*MLBUM 53(g): "If a pitcher, while touching the pitcher's plate, jumps into the air with both feet simultaneously and his non-pivot foot lands in a step towards first base before he throws that that base, he has made a legal move."

This is the 114th ejection of the 2014 MLB Regular Season.
