MLB Replay Reviews 623-624: Mark Carlson (07-08)

Instant Replay Review upheld 1B Umpire Mark Carlson's out call and overturned Carlson's safe call in the bottom of the 6th inning of the Diamondbacks-Padres game. With none out and none on, Padres batter Yasmani Grandal hit a 1-2 curveball from Diamondbacks pitcher Mike Bolsinger on the ground to Bolsinger, who threw to first baseman Paul Goldschmidt as Grandal arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Padres Manager Bud Black, Carlson's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Padres were leading, 2-1.

With one out and one on, Padres batter Cameron Maybin hit a 0-1 cutter from Bolsinger on the ground to Bolsinger, who threw to Goldschmidt as Maybin arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of challenge by Diamondbacks Manager Kirk Gibson, Carlson's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the Padres were leading, 2-1. The Padres ultimately won the contest, 2-1.
