MLB Ejections 022-23 - Carapazza, Wendelstedt (SF x2)

2B Umpire Vic Carapazza ejected Giants director of ml pitching Frank Anderson & HP Umpire Hunter Wendelstedt ejected Giants pitcher/bench player Adrian Houser (Replay Review decision upholding out call on ball that hit the catwalk/ground rules; QOCY) in the top of the 2nd inning of the #Giants-#Rays game. With two out and none on, Giants batter Heliot Ramos hit a fly ball that struck the ceiling or catwalk of Tropicana Field and was caught by Rays center fielder Cedric Mullins, ruled an out by 2B Umpire Carapazza, and affirmed as an out by Replay Review following a Crew Chief-initiated review. Pursuant to Tropicana Field ground rules, a batted ball that strikes the upper catwalks is deemed in play and may be caught for an out while a batted ball striking the lower catwalk rings in fair territory is a home run; replays do not conclusively indicate where the ball contacted the ceiling/catwalk/angled support rod, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejections, the game was tied, 0-0. The Rays ultimately won the contest, 5-1.

This is Hunter Wendelstedt (21)'s 1st ejection of 2026.
This is Vic Carapazza (19)'s 3rd ejection of 2026.
*Tropicana Field Ground Rules: "Batted ball that strikes either of the upper catwalks (known as the 'A-Ring' and the 'B-Ring'), including the masts that support each of those catwalks as well as any angled support rods that connect the 'B-Ring' to the masts that support the 'C-Ring' in fair territory: In Play. If caught by fielder, batter is out and runners advance at own risk."
