MLB Ejection 047 - Steven Jaschinski (1; John Schneider)

HP Umpire Steven Jaschinski ejected Blue Jays manager John Schneider (step balk call on Jeff Hoffman; QOCY) in the top of the 8th inning of the #Yankees-#BlueJays game. With one out and one on, Yankees batter Max Scheumann took a 1-0 slider from Blue Jays pitcher Hoffman for a called strike as Yankees baserunner R1 Jazz Chisholm stole second base. On the ensuing pitch, pitcher Hoffman faked a pickoff throw to second base, but was called for a balk by HP Umpire Jaschinski. Replays indicate pitcher Hoffman failed to step directly toward second base before feigning to that base, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 3-3. The Yankees ultimately won the contest, 8-3.

With none out and one on, Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman was called for a balk during delivery to Dodgers batter Alex Freeland, advancing baserunner R1 Hyseong Kim to second base. Replays indicate Gausman, pitching from Set Position, failed to come to a stop during his delivery, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Dodgers were leading, 2-0. The Dodgers ultimately won the contest, 4-1.

HP Umpire Tripp Gibson ejected Blue Jays manager John Schneider (Replay Review decision that upheld 3B Umpire Brian Walsh's foul ball [no home run] call) in the top of the 5th inning of the #BlueJays-#Athletics game. With two outs and none on, Blue Jays batter Davis Schneider hit a 0-0 cutter from A's pitcher Jeffrey Springs for a fly ball beyond the left field corner, out of the playing field in air, originally ruled a foul ball by 3B Umpire Walsh and upheld as foul/no HR ("call stands") as a result of a challenge by Blue Jays manager Schneider. Replays do not conclusively present clear and convincing evidence to suggest whether this ball was foul or fair, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the A's were leading, 4-0. The A's ultimately won the contest, 6-3.

HP Umpire Chris Conroy ejected Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman in the botom of the 3rd and manager John Schneider (balls/strikes; QOCY) in the top of the 5th inning of the #BlueJays-#Yankees game. In the 3rd, Yankees batter Jasson Domínguez flied out, Oswaldo Cabrera walked, Ben Rice walked, Aaron Judge singled, Cody Bellinger hit an RBI sacrifice fly, Paul Goldschidt walked, Jazz Chisholm walked (RBI), Anthony Volpe walked (RBI), and Austin Wells doubled (3 RBI). Gausman was ejected arguing balls and strikes during a subsequent pitching change. Replays indicate of the callable pitches in the half inning thrown prior to ejection, Conroy officiated 30-of-31 correctly (97% accuracy), the call was correct.

In the 5th, with none out and none on, Blue Jays batter Guerrero took a 1-0 changeup from Yankees pitcher Max Fried for a called first strike. Replays indicate pitch was located over the over the outer edge of home plate and at the hollow of the knee (px 0.66, pz 1.69 [sz_bot 1.60 / RAD 1.48]), the call was correct.* At the time of both ejections, the Yankees were leading, 6-1. With one out and two on, Phillies batter Kyle Schwarber attempted to check his swing on a 2-2 pitch from Blue Jays pitcher José Berríos, ruled a ball and hit-by-pitch by HP Umpire Fletcher and affirmed as no swing by 3B Umpire Clemons. Schneider was ejected following Bryce Harper's grand slam and during Toronto's subsequent pitching change. At the time of the ejection, the Phillies were leading, 8-0. The Phillies ultimately won the contest, 10-1.
