Injury: Kerwin Danley Struck in Mask, Leaves Game

Umpire Kerwin Danley took a bouncing ball to the mask with one out in the bottom of the first inning of Monday night's Rockies-Reds game. Reds batter Zack Cozart took a 0-2 ball in the dirt from Rockies pitcher Tyler Chatwood, the baseball caroming off catcher Wilin Rosario's glove and off Danley's mask. Though Danley remained in the game immediately following the injury delay, he left in the top of the third inning as Lance Barksdale donned the gear and took over behind home plate. Danley has suffered several notable injuries during his MLB career.

Danley was hit in the head Monday night.
In 2008, Danley was hit square in the face and knocked unconscious by a 96-mph Brad Penny fastball at Dodger Stadium; an ambulance was brought onto the field in order to transport Danley to a local hospital.
In 2009, Danley took a broken bat from Hank Blalock to the head in Texas, requiring a stretcher to be brought onto the field. After the game, was diagnosed with a mild concussion.
In 2012, Danley was struck in the groin by a directly pitched ball in the dirt, remaining in the game.
In May 2013, Danley sustained a concussion.

Because Danley has suffered multiple traumatic brain injuries in the past, he is more susceptible to concussion, though in regards to the present, he is listed as day-to-day.
