MLB Ejection 126 - Ben May (1; Miguel Cabrera)

1B Umpire Ben May ejected Tigers DH Miguel Cabrera (check swing strike three call) in the top of the 5th inning of the #Tigers-#Rangers game. With one out and none on, Cabrera attempted to check his swing on a 1-2 slider from Rangers pitcher Dane Dunning, ruled a ball by HP Umpire Chris Segal and called a swinging third strike on appeal by 1B Umpire May. At the time of the ejection, the Rangers were leading, 6-0. The Rangers ultimately won the contest, 10-2.

MLB Ejections 164-165 - Alfonso Marquez (3-4; DET)

HP Umpire Alfonso Marquez ejected Tigers DH Miguel Cabrera and Manager Ron Gardenhire (pace of play/batter's box rule; QOCU) in the top of the 5th inning of the #Tigers-#Astros game. With one out and none on in the top of the 5th inning, Cabrera flied out against Astros pitcher Wade Miley, having been instructed by Marquez to promptly enter the batter's box, as in Rule 5.04(b)(1), before being ejected one inning later for arguing that Astros batter Yordan Alvarez was purportedly not receiving a similar instruction, the call was irrecusable.* At the time of the ejections, the Astros were leading, 4-2. The Astros ultimately won the contest, 5-4.

With none out and one on (R2), Cabrera took a 1-2 fastball from Red Sox pitcher David Price for a called third strike. Replays indicate the pitch was located over the inner half of home plate and at the midpoint (px -0.37, pz 3.33 [sz_top 3.53]) and that all other pitches during the half-inning were properly officiated, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Tigers were leading, 1-0. The Red Sox ultimately won the contest, 6-3.

HP Umpire Brennan Miller ejected Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (strike three call; QOCU) in the bottom of the 6th inning of the Orioles-Tigers game. With two out and none on, Cabrera took a 0-2 pitch from Orioles pitcher Nate Karns for a called third strike. Replays indicate the pitch was located around the outer edge of home plate and approximately knee-high; StatCast is unavailable for this Spring Training game (there were no other callable pitches during the at-bat), the call was irrecusable. At the time of the ejection, the Orioles were leading, 6-0. The Orioles ultimately won the contest, 11-1.

HP Umpire Carlos Torres ejected Yankees pitcher Tommy Kahnle (throwing at), Tigers DH Miguel Cabrera (fighting), and Yankees Manager Joe Girardi (arguing Kahnle's ejection/warnings) and 1B Umpire Dana DeMuth ejected Yankees catcher Austin Romine (fighting) in the bottom of the 6th inning and 1B Umpire Dana DeMuth ejected Yankees pitcher Dellin Betances and Bench Coach/Acting Manager Rob Thomson (throwing at Tigers batter James McCann after warnings) in the bottom of the 7th inning and HP Umpire Carlos Torres ejected Tigers pitcher Alex Wilson and Manager Brad Ausmus (throwing at Yankees batter Todd Frazier after warnings; all QOCU) in the top of the 8th inning of the Yankees-Tigers game. With none out and none on in the top of the 4th inning, Yankees batter Gary Sanchez hit a 3-2 slider from Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer for a home run. With two out and one on (R1) in the top of the 5th, Sanchez took a first-pitch fastball from Fulmer for a hit-by-pitch. With two out and none on in the bottom of the 6th, Tigers batter Cabrera took a first-pitch fastball from Yankees pitcher Kahnle for a called first ball, resulting in an ejection and eventual bench-clearing incident. Replays indicate the pitch was thrown behind Cabrera and waist-high, the call was irrecusable. At the time of all 6th inning ejections, the Tigers were leading, 6-3. With none out and none on in the bottom of the 7th, Tigers batter James McCann took a 0-1 fastball for a hit-by-pitch, resulting in another bench-clearing incident. Replays indicate the pitched ball hit McCann in the helmet and warnings had previously been issued due to the previous throwing-at ejection, the call was irrecusable. At the time of the 7th inning ejections, the game was tied, 6-6. With one out and none on in the top of the 8th, Yankees batter Todd Frazier took a first-pitch fastball from Tigers pitcher Wilson for a hit-by-pitch. Replays indicate the pitch was located in Frazier's midsection and warnings had previously been issued due to multiple previous throwing-at ejections, the call was irrecusable. At the time of the 8th inning ejections, the Tigers were leading, 9-6. The Tigers ultimately won the contest, 10-6.

MLB Ejection 101 - Tim Timmons (2; Miguel Cabrera)

1B Umpire Tim Timmons ejected Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera for arguing a foul ball no-call by HP Umpire Jordan Baker in the top of the 6th inning of the Tigers-Indians game. With one out and one on, Cabrera hit a 3-1 fastball from Indians pitcher DJ Carrasco on the ground to third baseman Jose Ramirez, who threw to second baseman Jason Kipnis to first baseman Mike Napoli while Cabrera did not leave the batter's box. Replays indicate that after hitting Cabrera's bat, the baseball appeared to strike Cabrera's shin before caroming into fair territory and toward Ramirez, the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the Indians were leading, 7-0.

Replays indicate the pitch was located over the inner half of home plate and below the midpoint (px -.57, pz 3.41 [sz_top 3.48]) (the first pitch of the at-bat referred to was properly officiated as a strike as well), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Royals were leading, 4-0. The Royals ultimately won the contest, 12-1.

MLB Ejection & Replay Review: Timmons, T Welke (2|3, 05)

HP Umpire Tim Timmons ejected Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera and Manager Brad Ausmus for arguing a check swing (swing/strike) call and Instant Replay Review upheld 1B Umpire Tim Welke's out call in the top of the 6th inning of the Tigers-Indians game. With two out and one on, Tigers batter Miguel Cabrera attempted to check his swing on a 0-0 slider from Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco. Replays indicate Cabrera attempted to strike the pitch, Timmons' call was correct. At the time of the ejections, the contest was tied, 7-7.

One batter later, with two outs and two on, Tigers batter Victory Martinez hit a 2-1 changeup from Indians pitcher Carrasco on the ground to shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, who threw to first baseman Nick Swisher as Martinez arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Tigers Acting Manager (Bench Coach) Gene Lamont, Welke's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 7-7. The Indians ultimately won the contest, 11-10, in 13 innings.
