Veteran NBA referee Dick Bavetta will retire from basketball after 39 years of service in the sport's top domestic league. The 74-year-old Bavetta concludes his career, which began on December 2, 1975, with 2,635 consecutive regular season games, never having missed an officiating assignment since joining the NBA staff.
His career includes 270 playoff games, including 27 NBA Finals games, three All-Star Games and the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Bavetta previously officiated in the CBA's Eastern League, Rucker League, FIBA and Jersey Shore Basketball League following his start at the high school level in New York.
Bavetta surpassed Cal Ripken, Jr.'s 'Iron Man' streak of 2,632 consecutive game appearances on April 2, 2014.

NBA Ejections: D Crawford, Bavetta & Dalen; TFFL Day 79
Referees Dan Crawford (crew chief), Dick Bavetta (R) and Eric Dalen (umpire) ejected Bucks center Larry Sanders for a second technical foul during the 3rd quarter of the Bucks-Trail Blazers game. With 3:08 remaining in the third period, Bucks forward Ersan Ilyasova was called for a shooting foul, his fourth, Sanders receiving two technical fouls in succession for conduct in violation of the NBA's Respect for the Game guidelines by continued complaining regarding a non-call on a missed shot attempt by Sanders. At the time of the ejection, the Bucks were leading, 80-65. The Bucks ultimately won the contest, 110-104.

NBA Ejections: Richardson/Phillips/Bavetta
Referees Leroy Richardson, Jason Phillips & Dick Bavetta ejected Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle for arguing a foul call (two technical fouls) in the fourth quarter of the Timberwolves-Mavericks game. With 5:00 remaining in the fourth period, Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo was called for a shooting foul. Replays indicate Mayo failed to obtain a legal guarding position prior to contact, thereby committing a blocking foul, the call was correct. Carlisle protested the call by vacating the bench area and proceeding onto the playing surface towards the mid-court line, drawing a technical foul from official Jason Phillips. After continuing to argue the call, Carlisle received his second technical and ejection, also from Phillips. At the time of the ejection, the Timberwolves were leading, 77-68. The Timberwolves ultimately won the contest, 90-82.
This is the first ejection of 2012 for Richardson, Phillips and Bavetta.
Carlisle was ejected twice during the 2011-12 NBA Season.
