With none out and none on, Athletics batter Carlos Cortes took a 1-1 sinker from Angels pitcher José Soriano for a called second strike; the Athletics did not challenge the call. Replays indicate the pitch was located over the heart of home plate and below the hollow beneath the knee (px -0.10, pz 1.46 [sz_bot 1.51 / RAD 1.39]), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 0-0. The Athletics ultimately won the contest, 12-11.

HP Umpire John Bacon ejected A's manager Mark Kotsay (foul ball call to Bobby Witt Jr; QOCY) in the top of the 9th inning of the #Royals-#Athletics game. With one out and one on, Royals batter Witt Jr swung at a 1-2 curveball from A's pitcher Hogan Harris, ruled a foul ball by HP Umpire Bacon. Replays indicate that the bat appeared to make slight contact with the pitched ball during the swing before the ball fell into the dirt behind home plate, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Royals were leading, 4-2. The Royals ultimately won the contest, 4-2.

MLB Ejections 156-7 - Ballou, Bacchus (TB-OAK)

HP Umpire Brock Ballou ejected Rays manager Kevin Cash (HBP denied to José Caballero; QOCY) in the top of the 7th and 1B Umpire Erich Bacchus ejected A's manager Mark Kotsay (Replay Review decision which upheld U1's out call; QOCY) in the bottom of the 8th inning of the #Rays-#Athletics game. In the 7th, with none out and none on, Rays batter Caballero was touched by a 2-1 slider from A's pitcher Mitch Spence, ruled a dead ball (stay here) by HP Umpire Ballou, who ruled Caballero failed to attempt to avoid being touched by the pitch. Replays indicate Caballero failed to attempt to avoid being touched by the pitch, which was actually located within the strike zone when it touched Caballero; as the ball (not strike) call favored the ejectee's team, the call was correct (had Oakland instead been ejected, the call would be incorrect).* At the time of Cash's ejection, the game was tied, 2-2.

In the 8th, with one out and none on, A's batter Miguel Andujar hit a 1-2 sweeper from Rays pitcher Garrett Cleavinger on the ground to third baseman Caballero, to catcher Alex Jackson, to first baseman Yandy Díaz, ruled out by 1B Umpire Bacchus. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by A's manager Kotsay, Bacchus' call was upheld, the call was correct. At the time of Kotsay's ejection, the Rays were leading, 4-2. The Rays ultimately won the contest, 4-2.

HP Umpire Adam Hamari ejected A's manager Mark Kotsay (out of the base path call on Tony Kemp; QOCY) in the bottom of the 1st inning of the #RedSox-#Athletics game. With one out and one on (R3 Kemp), Red Sox pitcher Joe Jacques' 1-0 sinker to A's batter Jordan Diaz bounced off of Red Sox catcher Jorge Alfaro's mitt into foul territory along the left field side. A's R3 Kemp ran toward home plate as Alfaro recovered the ball and dove in an attempt to tag Kemp, who jumped to avoid the tag, ruled out of the base path by HP Umpire Hamari. Replays indicate R3 Kemp ran more than three feet from his established base path (direct line from runner to base established when tag attempt begins), the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 0-0. The A's ultimately won the contest, 3-0.

As Pirates third baseman Jonah Bride caught the thrown ball, McCutchen stopped and got into a brief rundown, providing just a few seconds of extra time to ensure preceding runner R3 Hedges touched home plate and scored a run before the third out was recorded, as signaled by HP Umpire Visconti.

MLB Ejection 018 - Adam Hamari (2; Mark Kotsay)

HP Umpire Adam Hamari ejected A's manager Mark Kotsay (pitch clock violation: automatic strike three call) in the bottom of the 4th inning of the #Cubs-#Athletics game. With none out and none on, A's batter Aledmys Diaz, with a 2-2 count against Cubs pitcher Justin Steele, was called for an automatic strike for failing to be in the batter's box and alert to the pitcher with eight seconds remaining on the pitch clock. Replays indicate Diaz was not within the batter's box at the required time of eight seconds and although he appeared injured, he had not informed Hamari and had also previously used his one allotted "Time" request earlier during the at-bat, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Cubs were leading, 1-0. The Cubs ultimately won the contest, 12-2.

With two out and one on (R3), Mariners batter Cal Raleigh attempted to check his swing on a 2-2 fastball from A's pitcher AJ Puk, ruled a ball by HP Umpire Doug Eddings and affirmed on appeal as no swing by 1B Umpire Miller. One pitch earlier, Raleigh took a 1-2 slider from Puk for a called second strike located off the outer edge of home plate and waist-high (px 1.08, pz 2.98 [Expected Call: Ball]). Kotsay was ejected two at-bats later, when HP Umpire Eddings called Ty France for a swinging strike as France attempted to check his swing on a 1-0 slider from A's pitcher Zach Jackson. Play was reviewed and adjudicated as a swinging strike by the UEFL Appeals Board (7-0), the call was INCORRECT. At the time of the ejection, the A's were leading, 4-3. The A's ultimately won the contest, 5-3.

HP Umpire Brian Knight ejected Athletics manager Mark Kotsay (Replay Review decision/home plate collision call; QOCY) in the top of the 8th inning of the #Rangers-#Athletics game. With two out and two on (R2, R3), Rangers batter Brad Miller hit a 1-1 slider from A's pitcher Domingo Acevedo on the ground to left fielder Tony Kemp, who threw to catcher Sean Murphy as Rangers baserunner R2 Eli White slid toward home plate, ruled an out by HP Umpire Knight. After Crew Chief Review, the out call was overturned and White awarded home on catcher Murphy's violation of Official Baseball Rule 6.01(i)(2)—the home plate collision rule. Replays indicate Murphy, without possession of the ball, blocked the pathway of the runner prior to making a tag at home plate, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Rangers were leading, 2-0. The Rangers ultimately won the contest, 2-0.

Replays indicate the pitch was located over the outer half of home plate and above the midpoint (px -.48, pz 3.322 [sz_top 3.22 / MOE 3.30]), the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 0-0. The Dodgers ultimately won the contest, 4-2, in 12 innings.
