MLB Ejection 171 - Andy Fletcher (6; Carlos Gomez)

HP Umpire Andy Fletcher ejected Rays PH Carlos Gomez (strike three call; QOCN) in the top of the 6th inning of the Rays-Blue Jays game. With two out and the bases loaded, Gomez took a 2-2 fastball from Blue Jays pitcher Tim Mayza for a called third strike. Replays indicate the pitch was located off the inner edge of home plate and above the knees (px -.954, pz 1.766 [sz_bot 1.599]), the call was incorrect.* This ejection was not reported in the box score, but added pursuant to UEFL Rule 7-2 regarding disputed or erroneous information. At the time of the ejection, the Rays were leading, 3-2. The Blue Jays ultimately won the contest, 9-8.

With one out and none on, Gomez took a 2-2 sinker from Angels pitcher Andrew Heaney for a called third strike. Replays indicate the pitch was located off the outer edge of home plate and knee-high (px 1.025, pz 1.737 [sz_bot 1.681]), the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 2-2. The Rangers ultimately won the contest, 7-6.

HP Umpire Ben May ejected Astros Manager AJ Hinch for arguing a strike three call in the bottom of the 8th and 1B Umpire Jeff Nelson ejected Astros CF Carlos Gomez for arguing balls and strikes prior to the 10th inning of the Mariners-Astros game. In the 8th, with none out and none on, Astros batter Carlos Correa took a 3-2 slider from Mariners pitcher Nick Vincent for a called third strike. Replays indicate the pitch was located over the outer half of home plate and below the hollow of the knee (px .31, pz 1.54 [sz_bot 1.7 / MOE 1.6]), the call was incorrect. With one out in the 9th, Astros batter Jason Castro took a 3-2 slider from Mariners pitcher Steve Cischek for a called third strike and ensuing batter George Springer took a 3-2 sinker from Cischek for a called third strike; Gomez did not bat in the 9th inning. Replays indicate the pitches to both batters were located over the inner half of home plate and belt high (Castro: px -.59, pz 2.66; Springer: px -.45, pz 2.88), the call was correct. At the time of Hinch's ejection, the Mariners were leading, 2-1. At the time of Gomez's ejection, the game was tied, 2-2. The Mariners ultimately won the contest, 3-2, in 10 innings.

MLB Ejections 137-138: Davis (3-4; Gomez, Counsell)

3B Umpire Gerry Davis ejected Brewers CF Carlos Gomez and Manager Craig Counsell for arguing a Replay Review decision that overturned 2B Umpire Phil Cuzzi's safe call in the top of the 9th inning of the Brewers-Giants game. With none out and one on, Brewers baserunner Gomez attempted to steal second base off Giants catcher Buster Posey, who threw to second baseman Joe Panik as Gomez slid into second base, ruled safe by 2B Umpire Cuzzi. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Giants Manager Bruce Bochy, Cuzzi's call was reversed to an out, the call was irrecusable. At the time of the ejections, the Giants were leading, 4-2. The Giants ultimately won the contest, 4-2.

MLB Ejections 12, 13, 14: Fieldin Culbreth (2-4; MIL-PIT)

HP Umpire Fieldin Culbreth ejected Brewers CF Carlos Gomez, Bench Coach Jerry Narron and Pirates RF Travis Snider for fighting in the top of the 3rd inning of the Brewers-Pirates game. With two out and none on, Brewers batter Carlos Gomez hit a 0-0 cutter from Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole in the air to deep center field and off the wall, fielded by center fielder Andrew McCutchen. Following his slide into third base, Gomez and Cole engaged in a verbal confrontation that became a physical altercation as benches and bullpens cleared during which punches were thrown. Replays indicate a bench clearing brawl occurred, the call was irrecusable. At the time of the ejections, the contest was tied, 0-0.

Replay Review confirmed 1B Umpire Manny Gonzalez's safe call in the bottom of the 8th inning. With two out and two on, Pirates batter Jose Tabata hit a 2-1 fastball from Brewers pitcher Will Smith on the ground to second baseman Scooter Gennett, who threw to first baseman Mark Reynolds as Tabata arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Brewers Manager Ron Roenicke, Gonzalez's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Pirates were leading, 2-1.

Replays indicate after hitting the ball and while rounding the bases, Gomez became engaged in unsporting behavior with members of the Braves, including Freeman and bench player Laird, resulting in a bench clearing incident, the call was irrecusable. At the time of the ejection, the Brewers were leading, 1-0. The Brewers ultimately won the contest, 4-0.
