HP Umpire James Jean ejected Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker (ball four call to Maikel Garcia; QOCN) in the bottom of the 1st and 3B Umpire Nestor Ceja ejected Blue Jays manager John Schneider (check swing ball call to John Rave; QOCY) in the bottom of the 6th inning of the #BlueJays-#Royals game. In the 1st, with none out and one on, Royals batter Garcia took a 3-2 fastball from Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer for a called fourth ball. Replays indicate the pitch was located over the outer edge of home plate and above the hollow beneath the knee (px 0.75, pz 1.94 [sz_bot 1.70 / RAD 1.58]), the call was incorrect.* At the time of the ejection, the Royals were leading, 2-1. In the 6th, Royals batter Rave attempted to check his swing on a 1-2 splitter from Blue Jays pitcher Yariel Rodriguez. At the time of the ejection, the Royals were leading, 10-1. The Royals ultimately won the contest, 20-1.

MLB Ejections 031-33 - Marquez & L Barrett (TOR x3)

1B Umpire Alfonso Marquez ejected Blue Jays pitcher Yimi Garcia (throwing at Yankees batter Josh Donaldson) pitching coach Pete Walker (arguing Garcia's ejection) in the bottom of the 6th and HP Umpire Lance Barrett ejected manager Charlie Montoyo (arguing ejection no-call) in the top of the 7th inning of the #BlueJays-#Yankees game. With one out and two on, Yankees batter Giancarlo Stanton hit a three-run home run off Garcia. Ensuing batter Donaldson then took a sinker for a called strike before taking a fastball for a hit-by-pitch, resulting in Garcia's ejection upon umpire consultation for intentionally pitching at Donaldson. Replays indicate the pitch was located inside and hit Donaldson in the upper left arm; Blue Jays batter Lourdes Gurriel Jr had been hit by a pitch in the top half of the inning but no warnings had been issued, the call was irrecusable. In the top of the 7th, Blue Jays batter Bo Bichette took a first-pitch sinker from Yankees pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga for a called first ball (no ejection). Replays indicate the pitch was located off the inner edge of home plate and head-high, the call was irrecusable. At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 3-3. The Yankees ultimately won the contest, 6-5.

With none out and none on, Rays batter Kiermaier took a first-pitch sinker from Borucki for a hit-by-pitch, resulting in a crew consultation and ejection for intentionally pitching at the batter. Replays indicate the pitch was located inside and struck Kiermaier in the mid-back, the call was irrecusable. At the time of the ejections, the Rays were leading, 7-1. The Rays ultimately won the contest, 7-1.

With two out and one on (R1), A's batter Josh Phegley hit a 3-2 fastball from Blue Jays pitcher Thomas Pannone for a double to left field, scoring a run and resulting in a mound visit during which Walker was ejected. Replays indicate of the eight callable pitches preceding 10 callable pitches thrown during the top of the 11th inning, Marquez properly officiated nine of them (9/10 = 90% Accuracy), including all pitches thrown during the Phegley at-bat, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection the A's were leading, 3-1. The Blue Jays ultimately won the contest, 5-4, in 11 innings.

With none out and none on, Blue Jays pitcher Francisco Liriano walked Indians batters Carlos Santana and Edwin Encarnacion. Replays indicate that of the 10 callable pitches ruled "Ball" to all four Indians batters in the top of the 3rd preceding ejection, all 10 were properly officiated (10/10 = 100% Accuracy), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the game was tied, 3-3. The Blue Jays ultimately won the contest, 8-7.

Ejection 021 & Replay Review 162: Kellogg, Foster (1, 04)

HP Umpire Jeff Kellogg ejected Blue Jays Pitching Coach Pete Walker in the 3rd and Instant Replay Review overturned 1B Umpire Marty Foster's safe call in the bottom of the 2nd inning of the Red Sox-Blue Jays game. In the 2nd, with two out and none on, Blue Jays batter Jose Reyes hit a 2-1 fastball from Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz on the ground to shortstop Jonathan Herrera, who threw to first baseman Mike Carp as Reyes arrived at first base. Upon Instant Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Red Sox Manager John Farrell, Foster's ruling that Carp caught the ball and tagged first base prior to Reyes' touch arrival was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the Blue Jays were leading, 3-0.

In the 3rd, with two out and two on, Red Sox batter Mike Carp took a 3-2 splitter from Blue Jays pitcher Brandon Morrow for a called fourth ball. Replays indicate the pitch was located outside and thigh high (px -1.600, pz 2.537); although the first pitch of the at-bat, ruled a ball, was located in the rules book strike zone (px -.434, pz 2.057), a called ball on a 0-0 pitch is not considered to have "realistically resulted in a different outcome" for the defensive team, pursuant to UEFL Rule 6-5-c-5, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Blue Jays were leading, 3-0. The Red Sox ultimately won the contest, 7-6.
