MLB Replay Reviews 420-421: Dave Rackley (01-02)

Instant Replay Review upheld 1B Umpire David Rackley's out calls in the top of the 3rd and bottom of the 8th innings of the Twins-Yankees game. In the 3rd, with none out and one on, Twins batter Brian Dozier hit a 1-1 fastball from Yankees pitcher Chase Whitley on the ground to second baseman Brian Roberts, who threw to first baseman Kelly Johnson as Dozier arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Twins Manager Ron Gardenhire, Rackley's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 0-0.

In the 8th, with two out and none on, Yankees batter Brett Gardner hit a 3-2 fastball from Twins pitcher Phil Hughes on the ground to first baseman Joe Mauer, who threw to Hughes as Gardner arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Yankees Manager Joe Girardi, Rackley's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Yankees were leading, 2-1. The Twins ultimately won the contest, 7-2.
