ABL - Howard Ejects Lee on Bench-Clearing HBP

Benches cleared during Melbourne's 12-2 blowout victory over Geelong-Korea when HP Umpire Greg Howard ejected Chan-Seok Lee for hitting Aces batter Allan de San Miguel in the head with a pitch following a home run in the top of the 3rd inning of the Aces-GK game.

The inning began with a home run by Delmon Young, single by Nate Samson, home run by Colin Willis, groundout by Luke Hughes, and home run by Jarryd Dale. When the first pitch to ensuing batter Sam Miguel produced a HBP to the head, HP Umpire Howard ejected pitcher Chan-Seok Lee as benches cleared and umpires Howard, Brett Robson (1B) and Neil Medlin (3B) separated the teams; the only real fight appeared to occur between fans, in the stands along the Aces' third-base dugout; a uniformed member of the Aces appeared to leave the dugout to participate in the confrontation on the concourse. At the time of the ejection, Melbourne was leading 9-1. Melbourne ultimately won the contest, 12-2.

ABL Ejections - Greg Howard's Happy New Year

Australian Baseball League umpire Greg Howard closed out 2019 with a pair of Canberra Cavalry ejections prior to Geelong-Korea's year-ending, come-from-behind, walk-off victory and following a profane rant from an aggravated pitcher.

HP Umpire Greg Howard ejected Cavalry pitcher Steven Kent and Manager Keith Ward (ball four call) in the top of the 9th inning of the Cavalry-GK game. With none out and none on, Geelong-Korea batter Seung-Hyun Baek took 0-1, 1-1, 2-1, and 3-1 pitches for called balls, upon which Kent was warned then ejected for arguing balls and strikes; his manager followed shortly thereafter.

At the time of the ejections, the game was tied, 3-3 (Canberra had been leading 3-1 prior to the bottom of the 8th). Geelong-Korea ultimately won the contest, 4-3.

ABL Ejection - Greg Howard (Luke Hughes)

After setting an Australian Baseball League record by hitting two grand slams in one game against Geelong-Korea, Melbourne Aces DH Luke Hughes was ejected by 2B Umpire Greg Howard during an incident with the Korean bench in the 9th inning of an 8-1 ballgame.

2B Umpire Greg Howard ejected Aces DH Luke Hughes (Unsportsmanlike-NEC) in the middle of the 9th inning of the Aces-Korea game. After popping out to first baseman Yong-Wook Lee to conclude the top of the inning, an incident transpired between the Geelong-Korea bench and Aces fielders, resulting in Hughes' ejection from the game; Hughes set a league record by clubbing two grand slams and tied the ABL's single game RBI record (8) during Melbourne's preceding game against Geelong-Korea. At the time of the ejection, the Aces were leading, 8-1. The Aces ultimately won the contest, 8-1.

ABL Ejection - Greg Howard (Luke Hughes [Again])

HP Umpire Greg Howard ejected Melbourne Aces DH Luke Hughes (strike three call) in the bottom of the 5th inning of the Geelong-Korea vs Aces game. With none out and the bases loaded, Hughes took a 2-2 pitch from Korea pitcher Byeong-Geun Kim for a called third strike. Replays indicate the pitch was located near the inner edge of home plate, an uncaught third strike (no PFX/TrackMan). At the time of the ejection, the Aces were leading, 3-1. The Aces ultimately won the contest, 11-1.

This is Hughes' second ejection in as many days; umpire Stewart Howe ejected him on Saturday.
