Ejections: Lance Barksdale (1)

3B Umpire Lance Barksdale ejected Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel for arguing a check swing call in the bottom of the 7th inning of the Mets-Phillies game. With two out and the bases loaded, Phillies batter Brian Schneider attempted to check his swing on a 2-2 slider from Mets pitcher Chris Young. Barksdale ruled that Schneider attempted to strike the ball for strike three. Replays indicate that Schneider attempted to strike the ball and was unable to check his swing, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Mets were leading, 1-0. The Mets ultimately won the contest, 2-1 in 14 innings.

This is Lance Barksdale (23)'s first ejection of 2011.
Lance Barksdale now has 4 points in the Umpire Ejection Fantasy League (0 Previous + 2 MLB + 2 Correct Call = 4).

Lance Barksdale is owned as a Primary Umpire by jdbr78, who is now tied for 3rd place in the UEFL with 4 points.
This is the 23rd ejection of 2011.
This is the 12th Manager ejection of 2011.

Charlie must have wanted to get in the clubhouse to watch the coverage of Osama Bin Laden's death on CNN.

Interesting that Wolf initially wasn't going to check with Barksdale. We would probably be talking about a different ejection if he didn't, Terry Collins by Jim Wolf. Good job by Lance Barksdale making the right call.

Before anyone even mentions it... the footage of Barksdale actually tossing Charlie is available by means of the daily recap.

They showed Charlie's ejection when they came back from commercial. He came out of the dugout and was jogging towards Barksdale and Barksdale ejected him from about 70 feet away.

Clearly the right call and the right way to eject someone clearly coming out to argue balls and strikes, but the delay in the check swing appeal probably led to this ejection.

Has anyone noticed that wasn't Jim Wolf's crew? Wolf is on Derryl Cousins' crew. He switched spots with Adrian Johnson for the weekend series, presumably so that he wouldn't be calling his brother Randy's team.

And this wasn't a called strike three why?

I can see why it wasn't a called strike. I know when a borderline check swing happens it sometimes distracts me from getting the best look at the pitch right into the glove. Doesn't happen often, but it happens. Wolf's human -- it could've happened to him.

What I'd like to know is how Wolf was during the entire game with balls/strikes. Seemed to me like Wolf had a fairly small zone the entire game.
