MLB Replay Reviews 396-397: Hudson, Eddings (06, 09)

Instant Replay Review confirmed 3B Umpire Marvin Hudson's foul ball (No HR) call in the top of the 4th and 1B Umpire Doug Eddings' safe call in the bottom of the 4th inning of the Rays-Blue Jays game. In the top frame, with none out and none on, Rays batter Desmond Jennings hit a 3-1 fastball from Blue Jays pitcher Liam Hendriks on a fly ball to deep left field and past the foul pole. Upon Replay Review as the result of a request by Rays Manager Joe Maddon and initiation by Crew Chief Brian O'Nora, Hudson's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 2-2.

In the bottom half, with one out and none on, Blue Jays batter Brett Lawrie hit a 1-2 fastball from Rays pitcher Chris Archer on the ground to shortstop Yunel Escobar, who threw to first baseman James Loney as Lawrie arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Rays Manager Joe Maddon, Eddings' ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 2-2. The Blue Jays ultimately won the contest, 3-2.

Replays indicate that all pitches to prior batters during the inning that were ruled "ball" (0-0 fastball to Jason Castro, 0-1 changeup to Matt Dominguez, 0-0 curveball and 1-2 changeup to Robbie Grossman) were properly officiated, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Astros were leading, 1-0. The Astros ultimately won the contest, 3-0.
