MLB Ejection 086: Mike Everitt (1; John Buck)

1B Umpire Mike Everitt ejected Mets catcher John Buck for arguing a strike (swinging) call in the bottom of the 12th inning of the Diamondbacks-Mets game. With none out and none on, Buck attempted to check his swing on a 3-2 fastball from Diamondbacks pitcher Tony Sipp. Replays indicate Buck attempted to strike the pitch, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the contest was tied, 2-2. The Diamondbacks ultimately won the contest, 3-2, in 15 innings.

This is Mike Everitt (57)'s first ejection of 2013.
Mike Everitt now has 4 points in the UEFL (0 + 2 MLB + 2 Y = 4).
Crew Chief Tim Welke now has 6 points in the UEFL's Crew Division (5 Previous + 1 Correct Call = 6).

This is the 86th ejection of 2013.
This is the 38th player ejection of 2013. Prior to his ejection, Buck was 0-1 in the contest.
This is the Mets' 4th ejection of 2013, 1st in the NL East (NYM 4; ATL, PHI, WAS 2; MIA 1).
This is John Buck's 1st ejection of 2013 and first since July 2, 2012 (Derryl Cousins; QOC = N).
This is Mike Everitt's first ejection since August 15, 2012 (Adrian Gonzalez, Bobby Valentine; QOC = U).

Wrap: Arizona Diamondbacks vs. New York Mets, 7/4/13
Video: Buck argues from the field and dugout immediately following his strikeout, is dismissed (NYM)

The commentary is hilarious. "I don't think he swung" right when they show a slomo of an almost perfect homerun swing. Clueless...

mike everitt...cool as as a cucumber

They sure did show him some rabbits.

I'd bang that 100% of the time.

Ron Darling is a joke.

Gil Imber said...

You don't want me, as an umpire, to have to dive in the dugout, keep your words off my field. Anybody who says Buck shouldn't be dumped is spineless!

thats not ron darling. thats keith hernandez

It's not as if Everitt had to go looking for Buck in the dugout, he walked right to the far end and let him have it. If a player or coach is going to yell loud enough from the dugout so an umpire (and presumably the fans sitting near the dugout) can hear, the player gets what he deserves.

If it can be heard from your position on the field it is not rabbit ears, simple as that.

Under what rule set is that not a swing. These commentators are a joke.

I guess John Buck set off the fireworks a little early in New York this year. Sorry, somebody had to say it.

I'm a Mets fan. Won't say the commentary sucks [we probably have the best group in the league], but Keith Hernandez mailed today's game in after the seventh inning. He wanted to be elsewhere, that's for sure.

Gil Imber said...

Just another example of some people not having a clue as to what "rabbit ears" really means.

Gil Imber said...

People who even use the term rabbit ears need to be banned from baseball.

I still don't understand why players argue balls and strikes.

Gil Imber said...

I hate that term. Just like "umpire apologist". But some umpires do have longer leashes than others, that's life...

How has this ejection warranted so many comments? They don't get much more cut and dried than this one! He swung, he yelled, he got tossed, case closed!

As far as the commentary goes, Hernandez deserves a pass...As was noted elsewhere, he was just mailing it in in almost schtick-like fashion from the seventh inning on. And for those that think he's an umpire-basher, he's really not. In other games, he's had interesting things to say in praising the old NL umps from the time of his playing career. He's definitely stated a fondness for guys like Pulli, Harvey, Stello, Vargo, etc. in other broadcasts.

for some reason the crew for yankees orioles series Gerry Davis and Gary Darling will be on the same crew

Gil Imber said...

Emmel in TOR with rest of Davis crew. Wonder if there is an issue between Emmel and the O's or Yanks.

Gil Imber said...

the only issues with both teams happened in 2010

gerald laid and fredi gonzalez got ejected by angel hernadez

Great point. Keith was also praising Mike Everitt when he was behind the plate earlier in the series. He's generally very fair to the umpires.
