MLB Instant Replay Review 050: Phil Cuzzi (01)

Instant Replay Review confirmed 2B Umpire Phil Cuzzi's safe call in the bottom of the 3rd inning of the Rays-Royals game. With one out and one on, Royals batter Jarrod Dyson hit a 2-2 slider from Rays pitcher Chris Archer on the ground to shortstop Yunel Escobar, who threw to second baseman Ben Zobrist as Royals baserunner R1 Alcides Escobar arrived at second base and the baseball fell to the ground. Upon Instant Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Rays Manager Joe Maddon, Cuzzi's ruling that Escobar did not catch or possess the baseball and tag second base ahead of Escobar's arrival was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 0-0. The Rays ultimately won the contest, 1-0.
