Ejection 069: Eric Cooper (1)

HP Umpire Eric Cooper ejected Texas Rangers designated hitter Ian Kinsler for arguing a strike call in the bottom of the 6th inning of the Diamondbacks-Rangers game. With none out and none on, Rangers batter Ian Kinsler took a 1-2 fastball for a called strike three from Diamondbacks pitcher Daniel Hudson. Replays indicate that the strike three pitch was knee high, but off the inside edge of the plate (px value of -1.01), the call was incorrect.* At the time of the ejection, the Diamondbacks were leading, 9-1. The Diamondbacks ultimately won the contest, 11-3.

This is Eric Cooper (56)'s first ejection of 2012.
Eric Cooper now has -2 points in the UEFL (0 Previous + 2 MLB + -4 Incorrect Call = -2).
Crew Chief Jeff Kellogg now has 1 point in the UEFL's Crew division (1 Previous + 0 Incorrect Call = 1).
*The strike three pitch had a px value of -1.01, which is in the ball range.

This is the 69th ejection of 2012.
This is the 26th player ejection of 2012.
This is the Rangers' 3rd ejection of 2012, tied for first in the AL West (OAK 3, LAA 1, SEA 0).
This is Ian Kinsler's first ejection since May 29, 2011 (Mike Estabrook; QOC = Correct).
This is Eric Cooper's first ejection since July 17, 2011 (Brad Mills; QOC = Correct).
Cooper last ejected Kinsler on June 25, 2010 (QOC = Correct).

I guess today's just a day for poor ball/strike ejections.

Pirates-Rangers game. Astros are in San Francisco.

Well, not that it matters in a 9-1 or 9-3 game, but Kinsler has a point in that the score should NOT dictate how a game is called.

Jeff Nelson just ejected Alex Rios over check swing call

Nice gesturing there from Kinsler as he leaves the dugout. Great job, great plate appearance. Hey Ian, great job going 0-3 today.

The MLB video description is wrong. It should read: "Ian Kinsler is tossed by umpire Eric Cooper in the sixth inning off-screen while we instead watch Daniel Hudson walk in a circle."

^ I agree can we see a better video please

Why does MLB.com always seem to put up poor videos of ejections. They shouldn't have at least considered using the rangers feed.

Its the kind of video where if you watch it muted, you have no idea anything is going on. "Ian Kinsler buys a beer after being rung up" or, "Ian Kinsler tutors Algebra after striking out" -- Hard to tell what exactly he's doing, maybe he's hitch-hiking...

It looks like Cooper and Wash are talking about post-game dinner plans or something.

@BAPACop- unfortunately, both feeds show Daniel Hudson walking in a circle instead of the ejections. MLB has been better about showing ejections this year, but this video is clearly not one of those instances.
@Gil and Jeremy- It was Estabrrok who threw out Kinsler last year, not Muchlinski.

Can't blame MLB for this one. I think you have to go with whoever was directing the broadcast over in Arlington.

@ Elmer

You totally missed the point. Regardless of your location, you don't get to holler at the umpire. If Kinsler was arguing balls and strikes, he should be ejected.

I would not call these rabbit ears by Cooper at all. Notice ho after Kinselr strikes out he is chirping back at Cooper and Cooper completely looks away and ignores him. This tells me Cooper was not looking for a fight with Kinsler. But when Kinsler wouldn't shut up Cooper decided enough was enough. I love the Washington Cooper exchange, it was maybe the calmest conversation following an ejection I have ever seen. Wash clearly new that what Kinsler said crossed the line and was not going to yell at Cooper for it.

Another incorrect use of the phrase "rabbit ears."

Does anyone have any idea what Kinsler's thumbs-up sign was about? I don't believe I've ever seen anything that from an ejected player.

He said "Good Job" sarcastically to Cooper and was sticking his thumb up while saying it.

It is unbelieveable how many people do not know what rabbit ears means.
