MLB Ejection 140 - Alfonso Marquez (2; Seby Zavala)

2B Umpire Alfonso Marquez ejected White Sox C Seby Zavala (out call overturned via Replay Review...ejection prior to Replay; QOCN) in the bottom of the 6th inning of the #Cardinals-#WhiteSox game. With none out and one on (R1), White Sox batter Luis Robert Jr hit a first-pitch sinker from Cardinals pitcher JoJo Romero on the ground to third baseman Nolan Arenado, who threw to second baseman Nolan Gorman as White Sox baserunner R1 Tim Anderson slid into second base, ruled an out by 2B Umpire Marquez and dropped on the transfer. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by White Sox manager Pedro Grifol, Marquez's call was overturned to safe (drop). Replays indicate the fielder never possessed the baseball, the initial call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the Cardinals were leading, 5-1. The White Sox ultimately won the contest, 8-7.

This is Alfonso Marquez (72)'s 2nd ejection of 2023.
