Instant Replay Review overturned 1B Umpire Angel Hernandez's out call in the top of the 1st and 2B Umpire Adrian Johnson's out call in the bottom of the 10th inning of the Red Sox-Rays game. In the 1st, with two out and none on, Red Sox batter David Ross hit a 2-1 changeup from Rays pitcher David Price on the ground to shortstop Yunel Escobar, who threw to first baseman James Loney as Ross arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Red Sox Manager John Farrell, Hernandez's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the Red Sox were leading, 5-0.
In the 10th, with two out and one on, Rays baserunner R1 Desmond Jennings attempted to steal second base off Red Sox catcher Ross. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Rays Manager Joe Maddon, Johnson's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 5-5. The Rays ultimately won the contest, 6-5, in 15 innings.
