MLB Ejections: Tom Hallion (2, 3; Hawkins, Terry Collins)

HP Umpire Tom Hallion ejected Mets P LaTroy Hawkins & Manager Terry Collins for a repeat visit argument concerning a hit-by-pitch call (unsportsmanlike-NEC) in the top of the 7th inning of the Reds-Mets game. With
HBP, Foul... or both?
two out and two on, Phillies batter Brandon Phillips took a 1-2 fastball from Hawkins for a hit-by-pitch call and first base award. Replays are inconclusive as to whether the pitch hit Phillips' hands or the knob of his bat first (in contrast to the broadcaster's assessment, order does matter); Collins argued the call at the time of the incident, which therefore renders the post-inning argument a repeat visit ejection, the call was irrecusable. At the time of the ejections, the Reds were leading, 4-3. The Reds ultimately won the contest, 4-3.

These are Tom Hallion (20)'s second and third ejections of 2013.
Tom Hallion now has 6 points in the UEFL (2 Previous + 2*[2 MLB + 0 Irrecusable Call] = 6).
Crew Chief Tom Hallion now has 4 points in the Crew Division (2 Previous + 2*[1 Irrecusable Call] = 4).

These are the 36th and 37th ejections of 2013.
This is the 16th player ejection of 2013. Prior to his ejection, Hawkins' line was 1.0 IP, 0 ER.
This is the 18th Manager ejection of 2013.
These are the Mets' 1st/2nd ejections of 2013, T-1st in the NL East (NYM, WAS 2; ATL, PHI 1; MIA 0).
This is LaTroy Hawkins' first ejection since August 4, 2010 (Tom Hallion; QOC = U [Intent HBP]).
This is Terry Collins' first ejection since August 21, 2012 (Fieldin Culbreth; QOC = Y).
This is Tom Hallion's first ejection since April 28 (Jeremy Hellickson; QOC = U).

i was watching tonight and i don't think hawkins and collins were tossed because of balls and strikes. They were still pissed about the Phillips HBP (which had someone of a lengthy argument) because Hallion refused to get help on that incorrect call.

To me these EJ's should be NEC-unsportsmanlike, not a correct call.

Figures that LaTroys last ejection was by Tom Hallion... Remember the David Price incident earlier this season?

What was Tom Hallion's overall accuracy?

Agree with you on the reason for ejection: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130520&content_id=48117558&vkey=news_nym&c_id=nym

Yep, so I'll second your challenge there.

I'll second this. Rarely see a guy get thrown out after not giving up any runs and striking out the batter to end the innings.

Reason for Ejection has been changed to Unsportsmanlike-NEC (repeat visit ejection).

Unsporting behavior...

You can't see if it hit the hands or the bat 1st - the batter's reaction was fast and spontaneous enough that I would assume it did hit his hands. I'm 50/50 on getting help on that one, your partners can't see it any better than you can and you're just passing the blame around on a contentious call...

I love how Tom officiates, it so old school. In) this day and age where hs, ncaa, milb, and mlb umpires have to kiss up to coaches and players, Hallion really doesn't give two shits about what people think about him. He goes big with everything (K3 called, whackers, EJs). He tells the participants whats on his mind while always maintaining control

In re 036, 037: Tom Hallion 1

This challenge has been summarily denied. Because Manager Terry Collins previously argued this call, Hawkins' post-inning ejection is deemed a repeat visit ejection pursuant to UEFL Rule 6-2-5-b. As precedent, refer to MLB Ejection 001: CB Bucknor (1) and the corresponding appeal, in re 001 Bucknor 1.

Boy, Tom Hallion is gonna need Rotator Cuff Surgery if he keeps up those big mechanics

"So what're you in for Bill?"
"I'm getting the Tommy John surgery, you?"
"I'm getting the Tommy Hallion."
