UEFL Awards: Most Improved Umpire: Bob Davidson

2012 UEFL Awards: Most Improved Umpire of the Year: Bob Davidson (61)
Voting Results (min. 10%): Davidson (31%), Angel Hernandez (11%), Phil Cuzzi (10%).

Bob Davidson is the Umpire Ejection Fantasy League's 2012 most improved umpire of the year, in landslide fashion. In his 24th Major League Baseball umpiring season, Davidson finished 2012 with six ejections; Davidson ejected eight times in 2011. While some described Davidson's ejection of Charlie Manuel on May 15 (Ejection 031) as "Classic Balkin' Bob," after Davidson's subsequent one-game suspension for repeated violations of the MLB Office of the Commissioner's standards for situation handling, Davidson was described in Ejection 147 as "more approachable" and "no longer the sandwichboardman for alprazolam [a prescription drug used to treat anxiety]." Davidson was also involved with a lineup card mishap in Miami after Ozzie Guillen appealed that Cardinals manager Mike Matheny had failed to properly execute a double switch.

Bob Davidson now has 5 points in the Umpire Ejection Fantasy League (4 Previous + 1 Award = 5).
The next postseason award, Fill-In of the Year, will be released tomorrow.

Ed Rapuano is one of the umpires that makes ya scratch your head, his ejections are quick/ confusing. I.e. Throwing victorino out for wavy his arms up and down in the outfield.

Ed's final season. Decided to go off with a bang!!!

Well deserved...
But whatiwant to know is what is up with the delay in awards? Why not post all the winners at once instead of keeping everyone waiting?

Not well deserved... Did he get better over one year? No... He may have had an attitude adjustment ... But if that's the case.. And it's easy for him to switch that on and off ... Then he should not be a MLB umpire period. He lacks professionalism . And his ability is average at best . He dresses like he has been our drinking all night and just rolled outta bed. I have seen him work being unshaven, his hat looks like he sat on it. I could go on and on. This award... IMO... Should be awarded to an umpire that is improving as he works his way up the proverbial ladder. Bob will always be an embarrassment to the profession. What's that saying .... "lipstick on a pig".....

I think it was most notable with Bob that he was poor in several aspects at the start of the season, though by season's end, he had improved significantly in his situation handling, which is HUGE.
