MLB Replay Reviews 273-274: Eddings, Hudson

Instant Replay Review upheld 3B Umpire Doug Eddings' safe call in the bottom of the 4th and confirmed HP Umpire Marvin Hudson's safe call in the top of the 6th inning of the Angels-Phillies game. In the 4th, with one out and one on, Phillies batter Chase Utley hit a 1-0 fastball from Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker on a line drive to right fielder Collin Cowgill, who threw to third base as Utley arrived. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Angels Manager Mike Scioscia, Eddings' ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Phillies were leading, 1-0.

In the 6th, with one out and three on, Angels batter Chris Iannetta hit a 0-2 curveball from Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee on the ground to third baseman Cody Asche, who threw to catcher Carlos Ruiz as Angels baserunner R3 Cowgill slid into home plate. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Phillies Manager Ryne Sandberg, Hudson's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Phillies were leading, 2-1. The Angels ultimately won the contest, 4-3.
