MLB Ejections: Mark Carlson (2, 3; Johnson, Upton)

HP Umpire Mark Carlson ejected Braves 3B Chris Johnson for arguing a swinging strike call by 1B Umpire Tim Welke in the top of the 6th and Braves LF Justin Upton for arguing a strike two call in the top of the 9th inning of the Braves-Nationals game. In the 6th, with one out and two on, Johnson attempted to check his swing on a 1-2 slider from Nationals pitcher Craig Stammen, a decision appealed to 1B Umpire Welke. Replays indicate Johnson attempted to strike the pitch, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Nationals were leading, 3-1.

In the 9th, with none out and none on, Upton took a 1-1 slider from Nationals pitcher Rafael Soriano for a called second strike. Replays indicate the pitch was located over the heart of home plate and belt-high (px .083, pz 3.282 / sz_top 3.72), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Nationals were leading, 4-1. The Nationals ultimately won the contest, 4-1.
