2B Umpire Joe West ejected Phillies P Jonathan Papelbon for a lewd gesture (Unsportsmanlike-NEC) in the top of the 9th inning of the Marlins-Phillies game. With two out and one on, Marlins batter Marcell Ozuna hit a 1-1 fastball from Papelbon on the ground to shortstop Freddy Galvis, who threw to first baseman Maikel Franco for the third out. Replays indicate that as Papelbon walked off the field to his dugout, he made an obscene gesture, the call was irrecusable. At the time of the ejection, the Marlins were leading, 5-4. The Marlins ultimately won the contest, 5-4.

2B Umpire Dan Iassogna ejected Reds 3B Coach Steve Smith for arguing an out of the base path call in the top of the 7th inning of the Reds-Brewers game. With none out and one on, Reds batter Zack Cozart hit a 3-2 fastball from Brewers pitcher Jeremy Jeffress on the ground to second baseman Scooter Gennett, who attempted to tag Reds baserunner R1 Ryan Ludwick before throwing to Brewers first baseman Matt Clark ahead of Cozart for a double play. Replays indicate Ludwick appeared to deviate by greater than three feet from his established base path at the time of the tag attempt, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Brewers were leading, 3-1. The Brewers ultimately won the contest, 9-2.
